"Has Pac Man appeared on every video game console in history?"
Pac Man is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most classic games ever. It is a simplistic puzzle game featuring a yellow pac man looking thing :) that goes around eating dots while avoiding ghosts. It may sound boring, but the game is incredibly fun and addicitive once you start playing. The game may be the same as it is on every other console it starred in, but overall the Atari 2600 version of Pac Man is a fine game nevertheless. Pac Man is a fun game to play, whether you are playing it on Nintendo 64 or Atari 2600. The simplicity of the game may just be the best point of the game, because the game is not complex whatsoever. Anyways, on with my updated review to an all time classic game, Pac Man for Atari 2600!
Do you know how the regular Pac man field looks? Thats how it looks like in this game. Basically, you see a black background with white dots and white lines. Not much innovation there, right? But there is also a variety of colors featured in the game, like the colors of the fruits and the variety of the enemy designs. Speaking of the enemy designs, the enemy and character designs in the game are great! The enemies are basic ghosts, and each ghost is a different color. The funny part is, the enemies don't even look like your average ''scary, haunted house'' ghosts! That's pretty damn funny, in my opinion. Pac Man himself is just a basic yellow dot with a black mouth and a black eye. The graphics may not be up to par with Ms Pac Man or Pac Mania, but they are still pretty good. Overall, the graphics in Pac Man for the Atari 2600 are simple, yet the enemy and character designs save the dull look of the backgrounds in the game.
There is hardly any music in the game, all you hear is the constant yapping of Pac Man eating dots and sometimes dying. The sound effects could get to be a little annoying after a while, and I was quite annoyed with the sound effects in the game after a while. That is why I am giving this category such a low score. Overall, the music and sound effects in Pac Man for the Atari 2600 are below average, and the sound effects tend to get very annoying after a while.
The game is just like every other version of Pac Man: move around on a maze like grid while eating dots and avoding ghosts. Eating special power pellets allow you to kill the ghosts for a certain amount of time. Great and classic gameplay on your Atari 2600. The game may not feature any other unique innovations from the other versions of the game, but it doesn't matter because Pac Man is a blast to play on any system, and the Atari 2600 version is no exception! Control wise, the Atari 2600 controller does not lend itself well to the type of game that Pac man is, but I felt the control was much better than I expected. Overall, the gameplay and control in Pac Man for the Atari 2600 is great!
Replay Value (Medium)
If you haven't gotten sick of this game by now you'll probably replay it once in a while.
Jr Pac Man may be more difficult (due to the high speed that your character moves in that game) but Pac Man is still a decent challenge, especially for newbies.
Great game, classic one for Atari 2600.
