"Link's newest, and possibly best, adventure."

Categorized as a sequel to the Super Nintendo's classic a Link to the Past, this new 3ds game does more than bring players back to a world they once loved. In fact, no previous knowledge of the original game is needed. While not an incredibly long game (it can be beaten in one long stretch, especially if you're glued to your system) it is a near perfect example of what a Zelda game, or any game, should be.

The main idea of the game remains the same: You're Link, you use items to solve puzzles in dungeons, fight bosses, etc. This time your journey may be different than someone else's however. This is due to a new shop that is available pretty much right off the bat. Instead of finding a new item in a dungeon and then using that item to solve the puzzles in that dungeon, the new shop lets you rent pretty much any item/weapon for a low price, or purchase it for a higher price. Rented items will be lost if you die in battle, but between warp points and everything you've accomplished in the dungeon being saved, going back to the shop to re-rent your items is a small inconvenience.

The reason this new shop changes your experience is because now you are free to stock up on whatever items you choose and tackle any dungeons in whatever order you wish. Most dungeons will be impossible to get in to without a certain item, so you don't usually have to worry about going partway through a dungeon and then realizing you're lacking a crucial item. The puzzles in these dungeons are some of the most clever in recent Zelda history. This is half due to the unique use of the items, and half due to Link's new ability: he can turn into a painted version of himself to press up against walls. Not only is this new element used in every dungeon, it drastically changes how you think about solving puzzles. The puzzles are quite challenging, and you always have to keep in mind what items you have and what turning yourself into a painting might accomplish in your current predicament.

Most of the game (Its 7 major dungeons) take place in the new land of Lorule. You can still visit hyrule and tackle a few smaller dungeons there, as well as participate in mini games and search for bonus items. In order to sniff out most dungeons you will need to switch back and forth between hyrule an lorule, making even the game's map a sort of puzzle or dungeon. Between exploring and puzzle solving, the game will take anywhere between 10 and 20 hours to finish. It's not an extremely long game, but most Zelda games aren't. The game is so fun from start to finish, you'll definitely feel you got your money's worth.

A Link Between Worlds is a fresh new take on the Zelda franchise. It's fun, challenging, unique, and a joy to play from beginning to end. I highly recommend it to absolutely anyone who enjoys games. If you're on the fence about it at all, don't waste another minute.
