Is there any penalty for using the hints?

I've been playing many of Nintendo's games, especially the recent Mario games and I've noticed that they penalize you for using the help systems (nothing that alters gameplay) I was wondering if anything like that is true for this game. I'd check the walk-throughs, but they're apparently copied and pasted from the previous versions of the game (these versions do not have the hint system that's unique to the 3DS version.)

There is no penalty for using the hints
