After pulling out your ocarina near Malon as a child, learn Epona's Song and then come back to Lon Lon Ranch in the future and pay ten rupees to test out a horse. When your 1 minute starts pull out your ocarina and play Epona's Song. Get on Epona and "Test her out". After that, pay another ten rupees, but this time, approach Ingo while on Epona, talk to him and agree to race him for 50 rupees. For the race, try to always stay ahead of Ingo by never using you last carrot. If you use your last carrot Epona start to get slower. After you beat him he will challenge you again, but this time he will bet Epona. This time it will be slightly harder, but it is still pretty much the same. Beat him again to win Epona. After you win the horse, Ingo will lock you in by closing the gate. If you approach the gate fast enough, you will jump it. After that you have Epona!

statusWell after you have talked to Malon as Child Link a few times get out your ocarina when you are near her and she should say something along the lines of 'Let's play/sing together' then she will teach you Epona's Song =)
