    The Atari 2600 version of Tron Deadly Discs is basically a toned down version 
    of the Intellivision version. Most of the good stuff in the INTV version, 
    such as blocking, were taken out in the Atari 2600 game. This makes the game 
    more challenging and, I daresay, more fun. Instead of blocking attacks, you 
    have to use your agility and dodge them. With or without block, Tron Deadly 
    Discs is a fun game with infinite replayability.

    I dedicate this guide to all Atari 2600 gamers out there. They really keep 
    this system alive, even though it seems "dead." Atari 2600, in a lot of 
    people's minds, was the first gaming console ever created. This really isn't 
    true, as there were other obscure systems before it. However, this was most 
    people's first video game system - this is the system that brought them into 
    gaming. And so, I dedicate this guide to the Atari 2600 gamers that still 
    play this old system and keep it alive.
    
    This guide is also dedicated to Brian P. Sulpher and AboveAverage. Where did
    you go, AboveAverage? You told me which system to write for! And of course,
    Brian taught all of us that you can write billions and billions of guides for
    old games.

    In Tron Deadly Discs, you play Tron and it's your job to kill villians using 
    your deadly disc. The disc acts as a boomerang - it always comes back to you. 
    However, it won't kill enemies on the way back. One hit will kill an enemy, 
    and they come in bunches of three.
    
    To make the game challenging, the enemies get smarter as you progress in the 
    game. At first, they just stay put, but later, they actually move around, 
    making them harder to hit. Since Tron is only a one player game, you can't 
    play with friends. You can, however, try to get the highest point total.
    
    The doors serve no purpose in this game besides potential entrances for the 
    enemy. They also tell you how many waves you've fought. Hitting them with 
    your discs doesn't give you any points, but it's fun to turn them a different 
    color. They are good target practice when you are waiting for another wave to 
    come up, too.
    
    The points for each enemy will go up after each wave. It will go up rather 
    randomly. You can only get hit five times, so it's a race to see how many 
    points you can get before you die. The enemies never come in bigger bunches, 
    making the game rather easy until you get to higher levels. When you get 
    there, the enemy will become smarter in movement and start to spurt out more 
    than one disc at a time.
    
    Since the Atari 2600 version doesn't have the block button, it's your job to 
    actually dodge these discs. Since Tron moves pretty fast, you won't have any 
    trouble in the beginning. As the game progresses, though, the enemies will 
    start to corner you and work together, making the endgame tough.

         6. Strategies
    =============================================================================
    
    Shooting and dodging strategies.
    
      *  The most important strategy is ALWAYS MOVE. Yes, that's right, you 
         should always be running and never, ever stop unless you are trying to 
         line up a shot. Circle strafing around the enemy from the distance is 
         also effective, but if you are always moving, the enemy has no chance of 
         hitting you.
    
      *  Tron walks fairly fast, so you should be able to dodge single discs with 
         little effort. Usually, the enemy will throw discs as a diagonal, making 
         them tougher to dodge.
    
      *  If you are facing an enemy directly, fire your disc at them and move up 
         or down. This way, you miss their disc but they get killed.
    
      *  The disc acts as a boomerang but doesn't kill any enemies on the way 
         back, after it hits the wall.
    
      *  Line up your shots and avoid trying to shoot diagonally. Simply put, 
         this is because it's a lot harder to pull off a diagonal shot than an up 
         or down shot.
    
      *  Don't get cornered and stay in the middle-ish part of the area at all 
         times. Cornering also involves more than one enemy getting close to you. 
         If this happens, try to get around them or quickly dispose of one before 
         the second gets a chance to shoot.
    
      *  The enemies always come in waves of three, so it's not like you'll ever 
         fight a battalion of enemies. However, with the small screen, three is 
         more than enough if you just stand there.
    
      *  Enemies spawn near the doors, so get in the middle after you destroy a 
         wave. They will never spawn in the middle.
    
      *  If it takes more than ten seconds to kill another enemy after you kill 
         the first one, the first enemy will respawn. You have to do this fast!
    
      *  The points per kill goes up every round rather randomly.
    
      *  As you complete rounds, the enemy will get smarter and try to always 
         keep moving. They will also try not to be an easy shot, meaning you have 
         to start using diagonal shots.
    
      *  To successfully shoot diagonally, try to corner the enemy first. The 
         closer you are to the enemy the easier it is to shoot diagonally.
    
      *  In close quarter combat, circle strafe around the enemy.
    
      *  Soon, the enemy will start to spurt out more than one disc at a time, 
         making the game a little harder again. It isn't that bad, though, as if 
         you are always moving a second or third disc won't matter.

    Question: How many lives do you have in this game?
      Answer: You can get hit five times.
    
    Question: What is your weapon?
      Answer: It's a disc, but it acts as a boomerang because it will always fly 
              back to you.
    
    Question: This or the Intellivision version?
      Answer: It depends - the Intellivision version has the block option, making 
              the game easier and longer. However, if you are good at Tron, you 
              really don't need block because you'll always be moving.
    
    Question: What are the doors for?
      Answer: To tell you how many rounds you've gone through. In the Atari 2600 
              version, they serve no other purpose besides this.
    
    Question: How many players can play?
      Answer: Just one.
    
    Question: When did this game come out?
      Answer: 1982.
    
    Question: Who created this game?
      Answer: Mattel.
    
    Question: My game doesn't work, how do I get it to work!?
      Answer: You might have a corrupted version of the game, or perhaps the old
              2 K version, which doesn't work very well.
    
    Question: Where can I get this game?
      Answer: The Atari 2600 hasn't had any new games made for years, so you 
              can't buy it from them. You can get the game at a garage sale or 
              ebay, if you like. ROMs also work, if you have the game and it is 
              broken, that is. I'm sure Activision made one of their "five hun-
              dred games-in-one," too, and you get one from them.
