Frogger
Review by Vegetaman
"So good, you don't know why you can't stop"
Even though this game is a system older than me, the Atari in itself is awesome, but Frogger is an excellent game!
Gameplay: 10/10
What's to it? You're the little green from who wants to be just like the chicken that crossed the road. I bet the chicken never had to go between cars, trucks, semis, watch out for snakes and alligators, or even meet up with another friendly chicken (or frog, as in this case). The controls are easy, as all you have to do is use the joystick to move, and dodge all the vehicles. You are the little green frog who hops everywhere! He's the most awesome thing ever to come to Atari, including the big, mean, infamous Donkey Kong, DK JR. or even Mario and the Princess. Not even Mario can jump like this small green guy. When was the last time you saw Mario getting chased by an alligator?
Story: ???
There's really no story at all... you are the little green frog who likes to hop all around the place, in a limited amount of time. The objective is to get all 5 frogs across the hazards of the world to get to his little safe lily pad, also known as the 5 boxes at the end of the screen. If you don't have a perfect jump into one of the boxes, or an alligators there, you're one done frog. The only thing you do is go up Levels. The levels get harder as the first one is slow, then they add snakes and double cars, then speed up the cars, add an alligator log, and you have to cross them... all!
Audio/Video: 10/10
Even though the Atari is considered pre-historic to most people, the games and graphics are almost one of a kind. The sound isn't bad at all. Actually, it's very good. You hear the theme song when you start a level, then you hear the worlds best sound effects when you are hopping around. If you get killed by a car, there is an awesome sound, and if you get eaten by an alligator or a snake, the sound is even better. Not much else to say.
Replayability: Yes!
If you play Frogger, I don't know how you can stop (except for some grub... um... food I mean). If you beat it, you always play again for a higher score, or to see if you can even beat it again! Most people have so much fun at this game, that they can't wait to play it again. It's fun for any age, and the controls are so simple, the whole family could play (not consecutively).
To buy/rent: Yes!
If you ever come across this game, I would say buy it... if you can find it that is... I haven't seen a copy of this game besides my own in the past 5 months for sale. I think you can get Atari ROMS now, and I would imagine that Frogger is one of them.
Glitches: kind of
As for the system, Frogger is kind of buggy (has glitches and so on), but it never freezes up, even in my ancient copy! The only problem is the glitchy graphics, but other than that, no problems!
Verdict: Perfect!
If you never have played this game, and you find it, I advise getting it. The value of Atari games that work is increasing, and the number of Atari games there are is decreasing. ROMS are an excellent way to take care of this problem. I don't use an emulator, but I know that ROMS are really good! They can remove some of the glitches most of the time!
Don't delay, play today!
