"Walt Disney presents BERZERK I mean Tron"

I bought this game around 1985 (I think), in a bargain bin store. There were other different Tron games in there, but I think they were for the other game system, Intelvision. Anyway, I got this game, and enjoyed playing it from time to time.

In ADVENTURES OF TRON, you appear in a room with 4 floors. You must pass through the I/O beam located at the center of the screen in order to activate the two elevators on either side. The object of the game is to jump up and collect all the flying blinking bits on each floor to advance. Be careful, though. 3 kinds of MCP attackers appear from top of the floor, then zig-zag through the floors to the bottom to get you. You must avoid and perhaps jump over the Recognizers, Grid Bugs, and cannon-firing tanks (who appear later in more difficult levels).

The graphics are as good as they're going to get coming from a 8-bit system. Very sharp and colorful. The characters and the MCP attackers don't look very blocky, although primitive in today's standards.

There is no music, but there are a few distinct sounds. Tron jumping, the tanks firing, Tron disintegrating after being hit by a MCP. That's all. All sound clear.

The controls are okay, although there are time you feel a lag when you try to jump at times. You got to time your jumps in order to grab the flying bits and evade the attackers. You must remember to hold down the jump button in order to jump separately all three MCP attackers who come in in rows of three. The tanks come in one at a time and it's not a good idea to jump over them unless you're on the bottom floor, where they don't fire. It's still risky nevertheless.

The game play is challenging, Have your man hop through the I/O beam, use the elevator to go up the floor. If you want to go down, pull down the joystick and he'll hop down like nothing. Avoid the attackers and gather all the glowing bits to make the I/O beam turn blue, then step into it and fly straight up, advancing to.......

To the very same room, with same blinking bits in the same 4 floors. That's the bad point in this game. It's just like BERZERK, except the room doesn't when you advance. The only difference is the MCP attackers go faster and the bits get harder to grab. They keep going like that more and more till you use up all your 4 lives. It's repetition at it's worst.

But, in conclusion, it's an addictive, challenging, enjoyable game, as long as you can overlook seeing the same room again and again. The game is hard enough that you would barely worry about it. You can kill some time playing this and if you spot one cheap at a flea market or yard sale, pick it up.
