"One of the most classic games of all time"
The Atari 2600 has always been a laughingstock of todayís video gameplayers because of the poor graphics. But quite a few people, like myself, still enjoy playing the wonderful system and it quality games. One of the best, and most popular, Atari 2600 games was Pitfall. Pitfall was a side scrolling action/adventure game that paved the way for some of the newer games like Tomb Raider (and it kills Tomb Raider, by the way). Pitfall was an unique game for its time and while it may not be as fun to play today as it was back in the 70's and 80's, it is still a great side scroller game.
The graphics are not good by today's standards, but what do you expect from a system made in the 70's?? The graphics were actually pretty good for its day, the enemies are pretty much plain white but they look just like what they're trying to
portray. The main charcater is just a small pixel, but at least he isnít a little square :) The game's graphics are okay, but dont expect anything close to today's graphics. Overall, the graphics in Pitfall for the Atari 2600 are pretty good.
Again, the music and sound may not compare to the games made today, but they are perfectly acceptable. The music is hardly there, and the sound effects were kep to a mininum, but overall sometimes quiet is a good thing. Do not expect great music and sound effects, because this is an Atari 2600 game, but overall the music and sound effects in Pitfall for the Atari 2600 are above average!
The control in this game is good, it is very easy to do everything. The gameplay is fun as well, the game is very fun to play. You're this little guy on an adventure, and along the way you'll complete many goals. There is danger lurking at every corner. Overall the gameplay and control are good and are even better than some of the games made today.
Replay Value (High)
Come on, do Atari 2600 games really have OUTSTANDING replay value? But this game, along with a few others, are the exception to that rule. Great replay value in a great game.
This is probably the most challenging Atari 2600 game ever made.
Pitfall is an outstanding game, better than most games of today.
