*COMPLETE* Post Editing

3-Kind of want.
It would hamper the flow of discussion though IMO, how about you can only edit a post if no other posts have been made after? Fixes double-posting to correct typos and so on, but keeps discussions linear.

3: Kind Of Want

Depends a lot on what is done to prevent abuse. A few ideas on reducing abuse:

1. Placing a user level restriction on who will have access to post editing. At the minimum, I think post editing should be restricted to level 30 or higher.
2. Harsh penalties for abuse of post editing (this one I will agree with).
3. Limiting how often you can edit your posts or even placing a limit on how long you must wait after posting a message before you can edit it.
4. Not allowing the topic title to be edited, although the first post of a topic could still be edited. This could help cut down on trap topics where someone could post a topic with a title of "What's your shoe size?", then change the topic title to "How old are you?" later on in order to get some users modded for being underage.

If post editing can work on GameSpot, I think it can work here as well. If anything, Bacon should ask the GameSpot admins for advice on how to best implement this while coming up with a way to reduce abuse.

1. Sorry, I know a lot of people want this, but Gamefaqs boards have always had their share of trolls, arguments, hostility. It's part of the culture of the boards. Editing would make it so much worse:

User 1: Halo sucks and anyone who plays it is a moron.

Users 2-499: OMG how dare you.

User 1: <edits post to read Halo rules>

Obviously a dumb example, but you can see the potential for misuse.

3. As long as things were done to prevent abuse, like keeping records of previous versions of the topic and preventing trap topics, like the aforementioned shoe size topic, it could be a good idea. On the other hand, GameFAQs has been just fine all this time without it, and the possibility of heavy abuse keeps me from voting higher. The mods can't get everything.

4 do want

you could make based upon fixed timings like with user levels:
x times a user can edit a post in a day
x times a user can edit posts based on its account level
x times a user can edit a post in a topic on a single board
misc. extras if its own created topic
x times a user can edit a post if user is warned, suspended?, 3kl'd
