So long as a history of the post is kept, preferably visible to all users rather than just moderators.

5. Depending on the board that people frequent and if tournaments are going about, this is especially needed.

But make it so only level 31 and higher users can edit.

Hell, level 32 might not be a bad idea.

5: Do Want Now - I love this idea, and think you should do it as soon as possible

I moderated on a fairly large-sized message board for around a year, and, there are plenty of ways to deal with editing issues. The primary being, have the edit history available to moderators, and display a timestamp at the bottom of the message saying when it was edited. As well, of course, restrict it to users of a certain level (hey, give me something for 5000 karma besides a new board. Seriously though, earlier levels would be good too), and also restricting it to only being able to edit for a certain length of time after the post was made.

Granted, I don't know all the internal workings of the GameFAQs message board, some of these may have technical reasons why they are not possible, but, there are certainly plenty of ways to go about making this not as large of an issue as people seem to think it will be.

This is on every major forum ever created and I have never seen it be abused.

GameFAQs is much larger than most other video game related forums and as such has a much higher troll rate

There will undoubtedly be nonstop abuse with this.

It's a chore to have all the current information all consolidated in a single post instead of spread around the topic? Whatever floats your boat dude.

Yes, info topics are likely the one thing that this would benefit the most, but that doesn't make all the mass problems this would cause able to be overlooked.

4.

Make sure there's a time-date stamp for the edit, and # of times edited.

5, even though I'm a compulsive editor who probably shouldn't even be allowed near a forum with the feature, because I'll spend more time editing than posting. >_>

4, but needs to be implemented very carefully, especially on Gamefaqs.

Info topics, sticky topics on game boards, tournaments, forum games, the list goes on and on.

Like I said, if you don't like this feature, no one's forcing you to use it. And if you're so scared of trolls and abuse...well, I can't help you there.

1. It's a bit unnecessary. I think the cons outweigh the pros, considering we can get around the pros by deleting posts.
