Like say I made a bunch of racist jokes about Mermaids or Elves or Bretons from Elder Scrolls. Would that be against the rules?

It depends. For the most part that would be fine, but I could see some issues arising if you started connecting the fictional races with real-life races, genders, etc.

For example, if you simply said something like "I think mermaids are stupid", you'd probably be just fine (though it would be nice of you to back up your claim with some valid reason to ward off the mermaid fanboys). However, if you said something like "That mermaid belongs in the kitchen", there's too strong of a connection between that statement and the negative stereotype that women belong in the kitchen.

Does that make sense?

I suppose so. Not only do the races have to be fictional, but their stereotypes should be as well. Because otherwise you're just putting a different name on the same hurtful feelings.

Is that about right?
