| Howdy all and welcome back to another week in review. We tried out something new this week, rolling out large numbers of small updates.
First of all, we added in the two single most requested board upgrades over the past few years, spoiler tags and an actual quoting system. These upgrades were actually ready to roll last year, but we simply couldn't push them out because they didn't work on GameSpot, and making them work there would've ruined their functionality here. Since the split has been on the table for while some time, we decided to hold off and not compromise on their functionality until we could push them out the way we wanted to.
Now that there are two of us on the staff, we were able to take user feedback from this upgrade and get it implemented very quickly. Some users weren't satisfied with having to highlight spoilers, so we added in hovering to reveal them. Still others just didn't want to fool with anything at all, so we added the always available option. Users thought the quote boxes were hard to look at so we modified them. We got suggestions for cleaner implementation of quoting so we added it in.
This was pretty great, but doing all of this in addition to our other planned upgrades resulted in a ton of updates over a short period of time. While this was a lot of fun to do, it was a bit overwhelming for the users. Starting next week (well, after the holiday), we plan to revert back to a 1-2 updates per week schedule again.
Looking back at spoilers and quoting tags again, the users definitely put them to work this week. So far we've seen 4724 uses of spoiler tags and 82446 uses of quotes.
We also added in a code tag, which we've seen used 675 times. We added topic creator notification within topics and the ability to show pagination directly from the topic list. It was a great week for updates and we hope everyone is enjoying what we're doing.
We already have a few things planned for next week. In the meantime, you can always start up a new petition on the Site Suggestions board if there's something in particular you'd like us to take a look at. Can't promise anything but we are definitely open to interesting and cool new ideas. Take care and enjoy the holiday weekend! --- Um, not to criticize science or anything, but wouldn't it be easier just to call it "the pink one"? |
