So I've been a fan of FF7 since I was much younger.
It was my first real RPG and was my first FF game. I loved it and it'll always have a special place in my heart.
Knowing this I've been a fan of the music for ages, they bring up that wonderful feeling of nostalgia.
So when I installed the Steam version... it seemed that everything sounded different.
Now I don't think this is me remembering things with Rose Tinted glasses. It honestly sounds to me that they've either touched the sound levels or added some bits here and there or visa versa.

Download that and replace the OGG music in the game's Steam folder. It will then sound just like the Playstation version. --- The Review Depot - http://reviewdepot.net

No you are not remembering wrong, the quality of the music in the PC version of final fantasy VII is much worse... But you can fix that by downloading the mod that I linked below. The installer will replace all the music with the music from the original PSX version!

Will this change interfere with cloud saves/achievements etc? --- GamerTag: ChiefWiggum119 Steam ID: Librarytimeisover

It sounds like the OGG music included with the Steam version was made by playing back the MIDI files from the original PC version. One wonders why they simply didn't use the music they composed for the PSX version directly :P.

Is it possible to convert standard mp3 (maybe the ones from OC Remix) to ogg so we can put them in game?

Changing the format to ogg is easy, but to function right as background music it needs to have looping set up properly, which is a lot more complicated. --- Nothing to see here.
