Trilogy won't install

#1Trooperdx3117Posted 7/28/2009 3:35:50 AM

I just bought the Fallout trilogy and obviously my computer more than meets the required specs and it says on the back of the box that it will run on XP. However when I try to run the installation programme I get an error message saying "D:\ is not a valid Win32 application". So does anyone have any ideas on how to run it.

Sounds like it's trying to install onto your CD drive rather than your hard drive. I'm not sure how the trilogy works, but if this were on my original retail version, I would go to My Computer -> (right click) CD drive -> explore -> setup.exe

No that doesn't work when I try running it that way then I just get an error message with no text, if I try running it under compatibility mode then I get an error saying cyclical redundancy check

cyclical redundancy check usually means your disk is screwed up. You can try copying the contents of the disk to you hard drive as a workaround, but it probably won't work (it will probably fail while trying to copy data2.cab).

If you have access to another computer, try installing it there. That will tell us if it's a problem with the disk or your CD drive.

Where'd you buy it? Wondering because I'm thinking of buying and I have no desire to purchase one from a place that is likely to sell me a dud.

Well I got it here in Ireland in a store called GAME so it probably won't apply to you, and also angus you were right it crashed after trying to copy the Data 2 contents.

Yup. Your disk is scratched or dirty somehow. Try and exchange it. The product is defective. They should allow you to exchange it for another copy if they won't give you a refund.
