Does switching in characters during battle affect how much AP everyone gets?

#1alexponentialPosted 9/29/2012 11:58:32 AM
If you use say, 4 different characters in a battle by switching someone out for another, does the same amount of AP get divided up amongst 4 characters instead of 3? Basically, does each character get less AP than if you only stuck to the original 3 characters in the battle?

No. Enemies will give you a set AP amount when defeated. Only way to get more is to get overkills, which distributes the same amount of AP regardless of how many battle participants you had.

I do because I can.....and because I'm bored.

Everyone gets the same AP no matter how many characters you used.

Example:
If you only use Tidus, he'll get 100 AP

If you use Tidus, Wakka, Kimahri, and Lulu, they all get 100 AP

Put another way, no, there's no downside. Work 'em all into every battle if you like. It's `PC + AP' for each one, not `PC + [AP / Participants]'.

Nonparticipants get no AP at all, but even if they only defend or cast a Special like Aim they'll share alike.

And if any PC has Double AP or Triple AP gear equipped, make sure they're on the front line when the last fiend falls. Despite the in-game help, they -- and Gillionaires -- need to be standing over the bodies at the end to reap those rewards.

actually they don't even have to use an ability.. you can just hit triangle to "pass" their turn.

but they can't just come in and go back out.

i prefer to kill all but the weakest enemy then switch in anyone that hasn't been involved yet and hit triangle.. then finish the last one off with whoever can overkill it (if possible)

i tried being serious once, in 1989.. didn't particularly care for it.. so don't expect it to happen again.

That's called defending (per FFX manual's Controls table). A PC takes a different stance and less damage while defending.
