I have two questions regarding BDL and Capture weapons

#1SeeDStephenPosted 10/1/2012 2:32:17 AM
OK...

1. What is the easiest way to gain a Break Damage Limit weapon?

2. Do you guys add any ability to a Capture weapon? If so, what do you choose?

I usually add piercing to my capture weapons.

As for BDL I think the best way to get this is each character's celestial weapons, or you could capture 5 of each fiend and receive 99 Dark Matters as a reward but it's only goingbto be enough for one character since it costs 60 Dark Matters for BDL.

Kuro-shinigami has you covered for No. 1.

More ideas for No. 2:

- First Strike, usually Tidus.
- Piercing for Kimahri.
- Status inflictors are always handy, especially if I'm farming overdrive modes; I like Deathtouch for Lulu, and Stonetouch for Wakka. Slowtouch for Auron if levels are below one-hitting enemies. I'll go with -strike abilities if they're economical and the items are not destined for something else.
- Usually Sensor for Yuna or my go-to healer, so someone has it.

All depends on my game for that time around, really.

Try everything, and replace capture weapons as you go. Search topics for loads more opinions; you're not the first to ask, of course. :j

Well if I can elaborate on the second question... What if I was capturing in the Omega Ruins and Within Sin? I would have thought adding Piercing saves someone casting Armour Break

1: Easiest way to get BDL weapons is powering up the Celestial Weapons. If that's not up your ally, smack around Stratoavis and hope for rare drops.

2: Like above poster, it varies. When I first reach the Calm Lands, TWA get one. T gets Evade & Counter (First Strike if I'm lacking in Teleport Spheres), W gets Sleepstrike, A gets Piercing. Later on, it's Deathstrike, Stonestrike, and First Strike all the way.

1) Do you have PAL/Int? If so, Dark Yojimbo farming. Zanmato (or if you can beat him normally, even better), reset if you don't get the drop you want. If you can beat him normally, you could even just farm Dark Matter this way. Just don't beat him 5 times in a row without saving and resetting. If you have Nemesis unlocked, you can use a similar strategy on him (not worth it for Dark Matter, as you can get them with equal chance off far weaker creations, but Nemesis can also directly drop BDL).
EDIT: This is assuming that the Celestials aren't an option, of course. They're superior to any customized weapon for physical attacks (which post-game is how you should be dealing most of your damage), although you can customize one that's just as good for overdrives, and even superior for magic.

2) I usually have a mix of Stonestrike, E&C and First Strike. I don't really find Deathstrike to be worth it, most fiends that are vunerable to it but not Stonestrike are easy as s*** anyway.

FWIW, by the time I'm capturing in Omega Ruins and Inside Sin, I'm more focused on gillionaire and multiple AP weapons. I usually have at least three celestial weapons powered up by then -- Nirvana, Masamune, Godhand; almost by rote for me anymore -- and all of them acquired and powered up with at least their crest. Several characters and all aeons already have BDL, if it's needed.

So though I've thought about it often enough certainly, in the end I never put BDL on a capture weapon.

I play the North American release; adjust as needed.

Yeah, don't bother with BDL on a capture weapon either. Not worth it. Almost every fiend with >9999 HP is vunerable to either Stonestrike or Deathstrike, or only needs 2-3 non-BDL hits anyway.

Adamantoise - Can be Stonestrike'd
Barbatos - Non-BDL Blitz Ace (assuming all 9999s) + one hit = captured
Bashura - Only needs two hits, can be Stonestriked
Behemoth - Only needs three hits
Behemoth King - Non-BDL Slice & Dice or 6-hit Attack Reels (assuming all 9999s) + one hit = captured
Dark Flan - Only needs two hits (if your Strength is high enough for BDL to be worth it anyway, that is)
Demonolith - Non-BDL 4-hit Attack Reels + one hit = captured
Gemini - Sunburst + Supreme Gem + one hit on each = captured both
Great Malboro - Non-BDL Slice & Dice or 6-hit Attack Reels (assuming all 9999s) + one hit = captured
Halma - Only needs two hits, can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked
Machea - Only needs two hits, can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked
Maelspike - Only needs two hits, can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked
Malboro - Only needs three hits
Mandragora - Can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked
Master Coeurl - Only needs two hits, can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked
Master Tonberry - Non-BDL 4-hit Attack Reels + one hit = captured
Puroboros - Only needs three hits, can be Stonestriked or Deathstriked*
Sand Worm - Non-BDL 4 hit Attack Reels + one hit = captured
Spirit - Only needs two hits
Tonberry - Only needs two hits
Varuna - Can be Stonestriked
Wraith - Only needs three hits
Zu - Only needs three hits (and because of its landing thing, even with BDL it'd still need two)

So, there's only 7 enemies (8 if you count the two Gemini as seperate, but you can easily reduce both of them to low HP at the same time) that need more than 3 non-BDL hits to capture AND are immune to both Stonestrike and Deathstrike (also as you can see here, this list backs up another one of my points - that Stonestrike is superior to Deathstrike; as every enemy on this list is either vunerable to both or vunerable only to Stonestrike).

* Puroboros can only be Stonestriked/Deathstriked in the NA version. To inflict either with a physical attack in PAL/Int, you need both touch AND strike together, which obviously is impossible on a Capture weapon. However, you can quite nicely reduce all three to the one-hit-left point by using Sunburst (in either version).

Lulu's Demi is my primary tool through those regions, with a few exceptions that quickly become apparent, so what's added to the capture weapon is almost immaterial. Except for First Strike, if Masamune isn't yet up to snuff.

One downside to death- or stonestrike is the potential for ending a fight too soon, before every PC has been cycled in. Something else to consider if that's a concern at all; habits can take real work to alter.
