Have you done the Green Demon Challenge in Super Mario 64?

Two Japanese players have created a new game in SM64 called the Green Demon Challenge. Here's the premise: you know how some of the 1-Ups in the game have the ability to home in on you and follow you until you have to get the extra life? Yeah, well, these guys tested themselves to see if they could get all the red coins and the star that comes with them in certain levels before the 1-Up caught up with them. It can be hella-hard.

Oh, and they're hilarious to listen to sometimes.

Those are the first halves of their battles against the Green Demon; each one of them have a second half you can find (I posted the first halves in case people wanted to try it before seeing their solutions completed).

Has anybody done this before, or at least heard of it? I just started the other day and completed the three done in those videos, plus the one for Snowman's Land. I also tried doing it for the second time you fight Bowser and Tick Tock Clock, but...damn damn damn.

Who's brave enough to try?

I watched the first one, and I have to say, this really doesn't seem that tough. The players aren't that great, and from the looks of it, any typical speedrun of Frosty Slide for 8 Red Coins would easily beat the life.

I didn't try myself, though, and levels like TTC would probably be harder.

I believe Myles (ShadowofMyles) did this before in one of his Red Coin star runs. Most likely for a vid task.

Yeah this challenge has been around for a while.

You could up the stakes by activating the trick that means that Mario gains a life for every death and loses one for every 1-up collected (to do this you need to collect over 1000 coins in the Japanese version) then take Mario's lives down to 1, then if the 1-up catches you, Game Over.

I'd watch a video of that ;)

Once you gain a life when you have -1 you will lose the "M". The next life will be added as usual.

Is it just me or does it seem like about 4 years since Dom Dunc was here?

So you go straight from -1 to 1 and circumvent 0? That's interesting.

DOM DUNC!!! DAMN IT, YOUR SITE PUT THOUSANDS OF VIRUSES IN MY COMPUTER! If you're unaware or not you need to fix your site. I'm not joking, man. When I went to your site, my computer instantly crashed, and since then, I've been getting bugged with virus threat pop-ups every two minutes, the internet is slow, and YouTube DOESN'T WORK. I think it's your responsibility to fix this problem. I've suffered enough already, fix it before more people do.

@Dom_Dunk

You can see here that after the M1 you have 0 lives and then you have again "positive" lives.
So you don't go straight from -1 to 1.
