Cutscenes

Do not work.

Anyone able to help me fix this?
I am running the game on Windows 7 64 bit.
I have DDFix and just got it working.

My intro movie doesn't play, nor does my mission briefing.

You can try install that. It requires this codec I believe.

No, sorry. That didn't do anything.

Try uninstall DivX if you have it installed.

To summarize from mrparisz's post:

Go to Start menu, type cmd, press enter. Then type:

regsvr32.exe LGVID.AX

If it says Dllregisterserver successful cutscenes should be fixed

Okay, I got them working.

But anyway to improve the quality?
I can see the age, or maybe it just wasn't meant for 1920x1080.
It's slightly pixelated, but the parts that are black, I thought it was glitched at first, but it looks more like the pixels have been zoomed in.
You can see a few pink pixels patterned throughout.
I took a screenshot, and the screenshot is small in the folder and looks fine. but if I zoom in, I can see what I saw when the video played in game.

The videos are prerendered and were made for 640x480. Back when we had CRT monitors, the game would change the resolution to that for the videos/menus and then back to whatever you set for the gameplay.

LCD monitors only have their one native resolution and scale it up. Thief I/II really look best on a CRT (in terms of resolution and darks), unfortunately.

So, theres no way to edit/patch them to play properly on any LCD high res monitor?

I should be happy they are working, but disappointed they're not pretty.
Since theres nothing else that I can do (?) I may as well get on and play the game.

At this point, two options are to watch the videos manually with videolan or go to Youtube and watch them there (all of the mission briefings should be available). It takes away from some of the immersion, but it's worth watching the videos still.

I'll let you know if I come across a better solution.

Oh, there is this. Scroll to the bottom of the thread for the newest links. Someone reencoded the videos. These may play better.
