Sony is trying to take credit for the first lady of gaming.

I just bought this off PSN and right in the description it says (the first lady of gaming.)
Sure if you don't count Samus from Metroid who predates Lara by 10 FREAKIN years!
Of all the low down dirty rotten mother bleepity bleepin! Phew got a little worked up there.
Anyway I'm rather appalled and flabbergasted. I guess Lara gets more credit since Spelunking is probably more universal than bounty hunting.
Nevermind that Metroid as a series is way better than Tomb Raider.

Perhaps it meant it in the political sense. I wouldn't read too much into it; of course there have been female game characters in the past. Lara Croft was probably the first really well-known one, though - Samus received nowhere near as much exposure as Lara. Remember, she was used as a digital model in ad campaigns for things not even related to Tomb Raider, like Lucozade.

Well at least Lara probably has more female fans than Samus does.
Metroid isn't exactly very easy to get into and might intimidate casuals.
I still like to think of Samus as the true breakthrough for women in games.
