-NES FAQ Completion Project Part 10-
Back To: Board List | Topic List | Topic Closed
The 9th edition of the NES FAQ Completion Project has come to a close. Since 2004, there have been guides for 674 NES games with less than 250 games still in need of one. The percentage of completed guides is now at 84.1% We finally have guides for a few of the last remaining USA games such as Metal Mech, Miracle Piano Teaching System, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Tecmo World Cup Soccer, with just War In The Gulf remaining. Now starts the hard part, guides for Japanese games! Good luck to all the future contributors. The project site, with complete stats can be found here: http://faqs.retronintendo.com
I got a new game added to the database today: AV Hanafuda Club, which is an unlicensed Asian release (actually I submitted it as Japan since the cart/game is in Japanese and it was sold in Japan, but, who knows, maybe it was sold in China too. For whatever reason, it's up as Asian). Nobody needs to worry about covering it, though, as I should be able to easily convert a preexisting Hanafuda FAQ I wrote since it should be extremely similar. :) --- "I am sexy minority. OH! NO! I wanna be a sexy terminator. Sexy will never die. AH~~~~~!"
Looking at your Idol Hanafuda one, I think it should be more than easy for you to do. :) Look forward to seeing that soon! In other news, I have a couple of games with FAQs coming up, and still looking into more quickies to get done. I may take care of Chinese Chess, which odino added today. Once I get the framework together, ala the one I did for Shogi years ago, a FAQ would be simple to do. --- Devin Morgan | CRP #3579 NES FAQ Completion Project: http://faqs.retronintendo.com
I wrote a quick FAQ for 3 in 1 Supergun to hack away at odino's added games. Just posting since it seems like it won't be posted until Monday and don't want anybody to waste their time. --- Don't **** with Da Hui
Family Mahjong by Public Domain is up I also submitted Baseball Fighter. --- http://www.youtube.com/user/PurrfectTrio The new breed is here to take the gaming world by storm.
In the last topic, someone asked about how to defeat the first Boss in Journey to the West. I just beat it by using the Monkey and jumped over the skulls to attack the Boss. It helps if you get your attack when it turns back to you for more hits. You can also hit the skulls to prevent them from hitting you. I also beat the second Boss (a bunch of rats) with the Monkey again. I stood in the middle of the screen, facing left. I jump over the first rat that appears from the right and fire to hit both the rat that came from the right and the newly appeared rat on the left. Repeat until you complete this easy boat. Hope that helps whoever was asking about it. --- Want to be able to submit System Requirements for games? Sign this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289
What's going to happen to all those links I and other people posted on the last topic for games that are still not covered?
Well part 9 of the project has already been archived here: http://faqs.retronintendo.com/nes/old_topic9/page1.html What we should do is keep harassing Devin to make him make a Notes section on the incomplete list so we can have all links posted there in a very convenient/organized fashion. ;) --- Don't **** with Da Hui
Now that I`ve been hanging with you guys for a while, I got this question to ask. Do you guys actually enjoy the games you`re playing? I mean, sure, it`s volunteer work and all, but some of you are pumping out FAQs like crazy, won`t that make them a little... hm, shallow? I`m not looking at anyone here, but I`ve seen a lot of NES FAQs that, though listed as complete here, feel really rushed and summarized. I`m sure we all want to say "Yayy! 100% of the NES games on GFAQs are covered!". Great, but what`s the point if half the faqs are lame? Again, I`m not attacking anyone here, I just want to know if it`s really worth it and if there`s more than self-gratification in this project -- do you have fun playing the games? Other unrelated question. Let`s pretend you love a game and want to write a FAQ for it (not part of this project). How can you do that and have fun? I`m currently going through Madara on my famicom, and my Japanese is fine so I can go through it no problem. The half-finished FAQ here is, uh, well, not very good. Now I`m thinking - I should write a faq for the game - but then I`m also thinking, ugh... won`t that hinder my overall experience? If I have to start writing after every step I take, it`ll take forever. Comments? :) --- You'll laugh, you'll cry and you will never want to go to sleep again. --jollzoffire about Dragon Quest VII
You are right, but it's better to have a shallow FAQ than no FAQ at all. Yes, this race to have all games FAQed leads to some shallow FAQs (like my FAQs and like anything done in a rush in real life too), but remember, no one is stopping you from making a better FAQ. If you love a certain game and you think the FAQ sucks and you can do a better one, then by all means go ahead. Just because a game is off the incomplete list doesn't mean no one else can make another one. |
