Hello everyone and welcome to the 2012 FAQ Tournament!

Website

http://superluigi16.webs.com/2012-faq-tournament

Head to the website for the most complete matchup information and the bracket. Hyperlinks are also present in the Guide Info.

Purpose

This contest is designed to both (a) determine the best FAQ of 2012 and (b) help us all become better writers. This approach allows everyone's FAQs to get better, and this will better the site as a whole. After all, we want the best content on the web, right? :D

Rules

Here are the most up-to-date rules:

- Vote for the best FAQ. Evaluate both FAQs closely and make an educated decision as to which one deserves your vote to advance to the next round.
- Do not vote for your own guides. You may, however, vote for guides competing against your guides, if you want.
- Anyone may vote. You do not have to be a FAQ author to vote. The only reason why you may not vote is if you intend to vote for your own guide. Also, we highly encourage all of the people who frequent the board but don't necessarily post too often to vote. Everyone is welcome, so vote if you can! :)

If you have any questions, please ask!

Voting

Voting is rather simple. Put the match number (the number in front of the two guides) first, then put the bracket ID for the guide you want to vote for and make it to the next round. Here's an example vote:

1) [100] Pikmin 3 FAQ/Walkthrough by super_luigi16 VS [101] Mario Kart Wii U FAQ/Walkthrough by super_luigi16

Votecard

1) [101]

Please make your votes obvious as it makes my job much, much easier :)

Important!

Spanettone's guide is in Italian, so most of us probably can't read it. HOWEVER, you can use Google Chrome and it will translate the page for you. If you're not using Chrome, go to http://translate.google.com/ and enter in the url. It will translate it for you. I urge everyone to vote based off of the guide, not based off of the language that it is written in.

I'll vote tomorrow night when I have some free time. :P

1) [16] I feel is well-optimized for a text FAQ. Maps/tables are not "squashed" and each individual section covers enough information in a small space that the sort of short headers doesn't feel like too much of a problem.

2) [3] for formatting and quality depth. [14] suffer from a bit too much wall-of-text combined with somewhat small headers.

3) I don't particularly have issues with [12]'s formatting (though indenting every line ~5 spaces is a bit odd to me), but [5] scores high on my FAQ turn-ons: big headers, [Noting Important Things], [_] Checklists, and little reminder flow-breakers.

4) [10] for better formatting, hands down. Main complaint with [7] is very small headers + text walls.

Aside: I'm now looking at my entry again and finding many format-related things that bug me and make me a hypocrite! D'oh.

Tales of Grace is a formatted faq and I don't like them so much, but this time it's surely better then the other: lot of infos, even if I would sorted the items in alphabetical order. Gloria Union is nice but the maps are not so clear and the tables feel "empty" (not for the content but for the style).

[3]
Fallout has good format, nice style, detailed and much more. The other one seems only a list of things.

[5]
I don't understand why the whole faq of Zero Escape is shifted to the right, adding only blank filler spaces, and I don't like "pointed faqs" where you can only read "do this. then this. then this...". On the other hand, Silent Hill gives you everything you need with clear format and good style.

1a. Krystal's formatted guide is simply very good. Details on this are on the previous topic.

3. There were some things I didn't like about Shotguns guide, seemed to get a little too "wall of text" like towards the mid section but it is well broken out and the headers/ASCII break up is welcoming making it easy on the eyes.

5. BK worked a lot on this, his work is usually good. The other guide just doesn't have the depth that this one can provide plus it indents and is a numbered guide.

10. Span has a really good breakdown for a really good game and it's really hard to compare to the bare-bone format that Cyric brings. I know the LOTR guide is good because I've used it but it is hard on the eyes and for tracking all the hidden stuff.

They're both pretty good and seemingly thorough, I suppose. Krystal wins this again based on formatting. I would like to note that I did notice a walkthrough for the Wallbridge section (where you get the Feather Badge) replaced with a YouTube video. Kind of a pet peeve, as I can't use YouTube. -_- Of course, some suggestions I would implement primarily include multi-columning some lists (the Enemy Book Checklist for one)

[3]

Nova just has so much detail in this one, but, as Spanettone said, the other feels more like lists and a bare-bones walkthrough than anything. Plus, Nova has better formatting and navigability through his guide.

[5]

The right-shifting of ZE:VLR immediately made me vote for BK. While, sometimes this can be used to increase readability under certain types of headers (I recall seeing it a few times in RARusk's GTA guides), the *whole* guide is just an attempt for KB-grinding. I also just love BK's formatting in this guide, though I still feel the controller diagram to be unneeded. =P I haven't actually played this game, so I won't go into quality too much, but it looks good - especially the Trophies section. You know how rare it is to actually give tips, at least from what I've read?

[10]

Both FAQs could use some formatting work. In that regard, Cyric uses more showy headings than Spanettone, who doesn't really use anything but left-aligned "tabs", so to speak. A good header will be vertically short, yet wide enough to stand out so you don't accidentally miss it - about 80% of the text between your headers and CTRL+F tags are pure white space. I had a lot of trouble navigating that way. Content-wise, both guides seem equally good (having not played either =P), though I would prefer Cyric elaborate some tips for the Trophies and Achievement. In short, Spanettone wins basically based on navigability and it just seems to be better quality to me, but I would really suggest going back to work on your formatting.

Again, comprehensive and excellent linkage. The Gloria Union guide makes it too hard to find what you are looking for. I know those STING RPG's can go into insane details and I love that Shadowchaser91 wrote for it. That is dedication. But still, Krysal's guide is the better guide by far.

2) [3]

Shotgun's experience shines through. Layout, flair, comprehensive... it's the whole package. If this guy wrote for everything I'd probably retire.

4) [10]

Span covers CotM splendifically (and I would know). More in-depth than my guide even. The formatting could use some help though, as could the placement of certain parts of the guide (the DSS CARD info should NOT be before the main walkthrough... people come for the guide, not card info...). The LEGO guide is solid, but could also use some formatting help as well, as the wall of text feeling and small headers hurt it. Overall, Span wins with content and comprehensiveness.

in each game, I first explain the skills (so you know what you can do in the game), then I put the walkthrough (so you know where to use them)
