Say someone wanted to get back into comics...

like Batman for instance... where to start? I haven't read a comic since the 90s but I find myself wanting to for some reason.

Any advice for an old guy getting back into the swing of things? Thanks.

Well, New 52 was advertised as pretty much exactly this, and for the most part it's decent enough.

Batman has like eight New 52 titles, so just pick one and start from the beginning.

The highlights of the reboot are Green Lantern (regular and Corps) and Aquaman. Stay the hell away from Red Lantern though.

I gotta ask, is it like back in the day where Batman has like 20 books a month, and the story carries on through all of them, or are the stories contained to a specific series now?

Thats great actually. Thats one of reasons I stopped in the 90s. It just got way out of hand. The story would span through lets say 5 different books a month, as well as books from other series that I honestly wasn't interested in reading.

Has Marvel rebooted their franchises recently also?

No. They did just relaunched all of their titles however to give new readers a good jumping on point.

Thanks for all of these responses. I used to be feverish about comics back in the day, and for some reason I was especially attracted to tracking down older issues from the 60s and 70s, either reprint or originals, I just loved those stories.

I may have to spend a day in a comic book store (if those even exist anymore?). Thanks again.

Last time I bought a comic book was back in 2002. Batgirl the comic at the time I was into for a little bit before the price jumped up for comics.

I'd recommend picking up the first trade for both Snyders Batman and Tomasi's Batman and Robin.

Batman has crossovers at issues 9 and 16-18 but you don't actually need to read any other series as they're just tie-ins and as someone who read all tie-ins for both events, I can tell you they're mostly just filler and are better off being ignored.
