Pieke OkataPosted 7/18/2011 10:45:11 AM | nd Mind Spike is eh even with the bump in monster damage,
The point of mind spike is to set up 'only bad decisions' traps.
As an example, my current character is a Persistent Harrier Battlemind (for harrying step shenanigans, naturally) with lodestone lure, a hammer shield, Talaric Ironjack, and Forceful Reversal. Lodestone Lure is an at-will power that prevents enemies from moving from a square adjacent to you to a square that is not adjacent to you. Hammer Shield + Talaric Ironjack = +3 to all defenses whenever you hit with an unaugmented at-will power.
Pull the monster next to you and they have two options: Attack you, almost certainly miss, and eat a forceful reversal; or attack an ally, provoke an AoO (if it's a ranged attack), and eat a mind spike if they hit.
They could theoretically throw down a blast to hit you and your allies if they have one I suppose, but harrying step gives you plenty of leeway on your positioning.
Mind Spike isn't a super-great punishment feature, but only one enemy in the game resists it and it works pretty well alongside the other tools that the battlemind has access to. The battlemind is basically a defender to pick out targets and make sure that they aren't allowed to be happy with their turns. --- I dont trust any of the tastes of people who were born with such good taste that they didnt need to find their way through trash. |

Yeah, the harrier focus looks pretty good, although I have to admit Telekinetic Savant and Thundering Force make the Wild version rather tempting. --- Meet Gabriel Belmont and his Vampire Killer! |
Pieke OkataPosted 7/18/2011 8:09:14 PM | Yeah, you basically have to spend resources on getting an MBA as a battlemind. It's their biggest problem as a defender. Personally, I like using a Half Elf battlemind (HEs get Either Cha OR Wis now, so they're basically perfect battleminds) and using versatile Master for Eldritch strike.
Wild Battleminds do have some pretty goddamn awesome blast/forced movement shenanigans too. The biggest problem is giving up harrying step, which is better than every other blurred step improvement feat that exists. Combined. And it's in heroic tier. --- I dont trust any of the tastes of people who were born with such good taste that they didnt need to find their way through trash. |

I think the only feat they have is Improved Razor Storm from the same book. --- Meet Gabriel Belmont and his Vampire Killer! |
