Year of Final Fantasy Challenge

ve decided to venture through the Final Fantasy series again. I'd originally done this a few years ago with I-X-2. With other games released, I figure I should give it another shot. The difference being I have a 30-hour job and Gamefly. The biggest threat to my completion is a series of handicaps I'm placing upon myself for many of the games. XIII and XIII-2 skate by as regular playthroughs, since I didn't finish or play them yet. Here's what I have against me for now. I do not have a PSP or Wii, so After Years/Complete Collection is also absent.

Objective – Complete Every Main Offline Game Within One Year – Spin-Offs/Secret Bosses Optional

Final Fantasy I – PSX Normal Version – Randomly Class Challenge (classes can overlap)

Final Fantasy II – PSX Version – Standard Playthrough

Final Fantasy III – DS Version – Random Class Challenge (unless game requires party switches for certain areas, can’t switch until mastery)

Final Fantasy IV – PSX/DS Versions – Standard Playthrough/No Augments

Final Fantasy V – PSX Version - Random Class Challenge (can’t switch until mastery)

Final Fantasy VI – PSX Version – Pure Class Challenge (Terra/Celes/Gogo) can use Magic, everyone else is locked in their class

Final Fantasy VII –PSX Version - Random Class Challenge (Materia Access Based on Class Choice)

Final Fantasy VIII – Personal GF Challenge (Each character gets access to personal GF with no overlap/switching, characters stuck to default until GFs are Junctioned)

Final Fantasy IX – Endgame Party Chosen Before Game (No Other Restrictions)

Final Fantasy X – No Teleport/Return/Clear Sphere Usage (Characters must follow Sphere Grid Path Directly/Kimahri’s Path Chosen Before Game)

Final Fantasy X-2* - Random Class Challenge (can’t switch until mastery)

Final Fantasy XII – Random Class Challenge (Each Character Gets Unique License Area until Mastery)

Final Fantasy XIII – Standard Playthrough

Final Fantasy XIII-2* – Standard Playthrough

*Optional

15 games in 12 months. It's doable, but I won't know till I get started. I'll post the character classes for FFI once I choose them.

*Prays to avoid 4 WM or 4 Thief Parties*

I've finished a bunch of games lately, definitely doable. I'm doing something similar right now, I am playing ff2. I generally play a few games at once. If something hooks me in really badly, I will play it like crazy.. Late nights, 30+ hours on a weekend, waking at 4am, etc. Good luck. You should post updates.

For a random party, that's very good. I was wondering if you'd end up with something like Th/Th/BM/WM or something.

For FF1 try my pimp setup:

1 Red Mage with his three White Mage ho's(If that's too daunting put in a Thief or a BB as a John)

Also, what method did you use for yoyr random setup?

I picked them from a hat. I was relieved when I got a white mage. I don't know what reds do, but I've heard they kick ass. I made a typo; 14 games, not 15.

Another question. how are you going to handle the random class picks in the games that stagger your class choices, like III, V?

Re-pick from a full list after each new group?
Roll dice to see how many characters stay the same then randomly choose from the new ones?.
Flip a coin on each party member then pick from a hat?

FF3 classes aren't as balanced as the others. I don't think you will finish the game if you use random classes.

The last time I tried FFV, I started the game by picking from the final pool of classes. If a character gets a class that's from a later selection, they will be given a class from the early draws (by random) until their initial pick becomes available. For instance, if Bartz gets Samurai, he will be given a random initial class until it becomes available. It would go, "White Mage -> Samurai." That is unless he masters White Mage before then. I'll just pray I don't get a White Mage -> Berserker setup. Actually, any Berserker pick would mark me for death I think.
