Most/least favourite bestiary this generation?

So, the great thing about this generation is everything looks really nice. So nice that its almost unfathomable to me that the next generation consoles could make the same jump as last generation to this generation.

A big problem with it though, is that development has gotten a lot more expensive, and there has been a lot more cost cutting to the point where some games (Anything Bioware makes, Skyrim, Far Cry 3) have a bestiary consisting entirely of humanoids with some wild animals thrown in.

To me, thats just disappointing to see. So much potential, completely un-used.

So what are your most/least favourites? Doesn't have to be just one, but one or two with some reasons is a lot better than an enormous list.

Well, you kind of said it yourself that this gen's bestiary's... really lacking?

It would PROBABLY be cheating if I listed a Dragon Quest game as "this gen".

Let's see, I REMEMBER some of the monsters in FF13/13-2 amidst all the boring one, like the Behemoths. I guess that's something.

Thats sort of the idea. There are definitely some gems out there, but for the most part its uninspired cost saving now. I liked Dark Souls a lot. Despite the fact that the hydra isn't a real boss fight, I loved the scale compared to you, and aside from that the recycling wasn't hugely noticeable.

Guild Wars 2 has some impressive looking event mobs. Its too bad the normal monsters that you spend most of your time fighting are recycled across the entire region. Centaurs + bandits for every human zone up until 50.

Ni No Kuni and the FF XIII series are my favorite thus far. NNK has some obvious recycling because of the way the evolutions work but they're all different enough to entertain and there are some really awesome monsters and bosses. It doesn't hurt that its the most gorgeous RPG this gen.

Enemy design is the weakpoint of all Tales games.
Looks like a stuffed animal store.

PS: FFXIII and XIII-2 have the most awesome looking final bosses in like forever.

Dark Souls or Ni no Kuni as most favorite.

Any Zelda as least favorite.

You misread my post (though it probably could have been phrased better anyway).

I'm saying the Behemoths are the GOOD designs. The bad ones are... I dunno, flamboyant dancing bird man.
