Independent distributors Olive films have added three more films to their August slate: Mitchell Leisen's Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1950), starring Alan Ladd, Wanda Hendrix and Francis Lederer, Leo McCarey's My Son John (1952), starring Robert Walker, Helen Hayes and Van Heflin, and Don Siegel's Private Hell 36 (1954), starring Ida Lupino, Steve Cochran and Howard Duff. Exact technical specs and region coding status for these releases are unknown at the moment.
Captain Carey, U.S.A.
Webb Carey (Ladd) returns to Orta, near Milan, to find out who betrayed his World War II O.S.S. team and caused the death of several villagers. His old love Julie (Hendrix), whom he thought dead at the hands of the Nazis, is alive and married to the Barone.
My Son John
Filled with the kind of Red Scare propaganda that must have delighted members of McCarthy's House Un-American Activities Committee, this drama chronicles the attempts of two All-American parents to save their son from the temptations of Communism. Unfortunately, they are too late.
Private Hell 36
Two LA detectives get in over their heads when they get involved with a nightclub singer who holds the key to the missing loot from a New York elevator robbery. Once they find the money, they are tempted to keep it and betrayal and corruption come to run the order of things. --- It's a great day for hockey! - Badger Bob Pittsburgh Penguins - 2009 Stanley Cup Champions |
Myke (Topic Creator) Posted 5/26/2012 8:20:33 AM | Also Raoul Walsh's Pursued:
Olive Films have revealed that they are preparing for Blu-ray release director Raoul Walsh's Pursued (1947), starring Teresa Wright, Robert Mitchum and Judith Anderson. Exact technical specs and region coding status are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is August 21.
Robert Mitchum (The Night of the Hunter, Cape Fear) plays a jaded Civil War hero who's pursued into the barren frontier wilderness by inner demons from his childhood past and real killers in the present. His passion for Teresa Wright (The Pride of the Yankees), who plays his stepsister leads to a fatal gunfight with her brother. Embittered and intent on seeking revenge on their wedding night, Wright marries Mitchum, but the arrival of a mysterious stranger out to settle an old score with Mitchum sidetracks her and leads to a startling climax of treachery, murder and shocking revelations. --- It's a great day for hockey! - Badger Bob Pittsburgh Penguins - 2009 Stanley Cup Champions |
IShall_Run_AmokPosted 5/26/2012 8:32:36 AM | I mentioned this in my own thread.
I'll mention again that I'm deeply excited to see Pursued on Blu. I never thought I'd be able to see the film again on anything but the junky old DVD that's been floating around, and now its going to be in HD. Also keen to see My Son John, which is said to be one of classic Hollywood's most amazing failures. --- Don't believe truth. Archie, just don't believe truth. |
