The Missing Lesson from Norway: Never Trust a Man in Uniform

#1coconutjuicePosted 7/27/2011 10:28:16 PM
"While the murders at Danziger Bridge differed in scale from the bloodletting in Norway, it was also a fatal ambush in which the perpetrators were attired in a costume signifying “authority” -- and they behaved with the same pathological ruthlessness displayed the perpetrator of massacre on Utoya.

Whenever an innocent person is confronted by an armed stranger in what appears to be a government-issued costume, one danger is that he is an imposter. An even more dangerous possibility is that he isn’t."

Funny, the real lesson I would've thought came from that tragedy is to not trust far-right whack-jobs with heavy weaponry....

I don't know if I could trust the police in Norway to keep the public safe. How did this guy manage two separate attacks, and why did it take over 90 minutes for police to stop him?

One simple answer to that: Logistics. The first attack was unexpected while the second was on an island that became cut off because of the shooting and the police had their hands full dealing with the Oslo attack.

of course, you don't care to have anything explained to you. And you don't wanna learn, but maybe someone else does.

Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die.

I'm sorry, the answer Tails was looking for was, "they're foreign, and therefore inferior and untrustworthy." Thanks for playing, though.

I'm not the only one raising concerns about this.

If it was logistics, why was the situation like that in the first place? Norway needs to re-examine its priorities and focus more on counterterrorism.
