"Student who got 'gay cure' sues California over new law"

What's more disgusting is that the TC claims to be gay.

The deeper question here is: why would somebody want to change his or her sexual orientation?

Because the people around them convince them that they're an abomination.

Could care less = you care at least somewhat. Couldn't care less = you don't care at all.

I guess freedom of choice doesn't apply to people who want to change?

The deeper question here is: why would somebody want to change his or her sexual orientation?

A lot of gay people grow up not even realizing they are gay. They just assume they are straight and they build their expectations around the idea that they will end up with a wife and kids and family and when they finally come to terms with their sexuality it destroys their whole life. On top of not wanting to be gay because it's simply not the person they wanted or expected to become, they have to live the rest of their lives being seen as abnormal (but accepted) at best, hated at worst.

Now, there may or may not be a way to cure the gay, but there is definatly a group of gays who don't want to be cured. Those gays insist that there is no cure for being gay and never will be and nobody better ever dare to look for one. They do this because they themselves have no problem with being gay other than being seen as abnormal, so they want there to be as many more gays out there as possible so they themselves will seem more normal.

Why don't you ask them?

What's wrong with them wanting to change if they aren't trying to change because they are forced to change?

I think the vocal minority of the gay community feels threatened by gay people who don't agree with them for some reason or another, so that's why they're pushing so hard to control what and how other gay people think.

I've guided people to a different sexual orientation before. You can't change someone unless he or she wants to change.

Defining when force is appropriate, or whether or not it is ethical, requires mindful humanitarianism. I have noticed that it seems to be rare for there to be a legitimate desire for someone to seek out 'conversion therapy.' I use that term lightly. And by 'legitimate,' I mean an expressed, willful desire of the heart.

If somebody feels that pursuing therapy will help him or her to be happy, then I think that he or she should have the freedom to do that--as long as there is no infringement upon the rights of others in doing so. My ex-girlfriend is a born again Christian who is, in her words, "struggling with homosexuality." One of the last times we spoke, I told her that I supported her efforts.

As a femme, I am very familiar with the tension that is sometimes present when controversial ideas or ideologies are brought up within certain gay communities. In fact, I'm unwelcome in some circles because I don't strictly identify as gay.

Diversity is so important, and that concept isn't limited to sex, gender, ethnicity, etc.: it applies to all thought. If it's positive, constructive, and fails to harm someone, then it's growth--evolution. Everybody has a life to live and a path to walk, and I'm here to help them understand what that means for them. smiles

You can't "guide" someone to a different sexuality, you can only make them hate themselves and try to hide it.

All I have to say to that is: orgasm control and operant conditioning. Consent is key. =)

If you are being serious: and that was what she determined to be the only truly effective means?

I eventually realized that it wasn't really my place to push others, even though I always warned them very clearly beforehand. Of course, the original desires/behaviours/responses are extremely difficult to extinguish, and most attempts to do so are usually harmful to the individual's psyche.

Effective for changing sexuality? No. People pay others to do it for them because it's sexually gratifying.
