Nurse duped by Aus radio DJs dies in suspected suicide related to phone prank.

Well, we give her criticism for her for suicide all we want, but fact is, she's done it. What puts me off, is she had (I think 2 children, could have just been one) I don't think she was "stable" enough to be be nursing people (private nurse was her title iirc) if she's suicidal though (and Royal or not, I mean ANY patient deserves a mental health free nurse). Sure she may of had pressure but come on, she did make a MAJOR blunder...by allowing what was terrible accents (the DJ's) access to Kate's information. If I stuffed up like that, I would EXPECT major criticism, but I certainly wouldn't have suicided over it...I dunno...

From just the information in the articles, it sounds like she merely passed the call on to the ward because there wasn't a receptionist on duty, and considering that it was 5:30 in the morning AND it wasn't actually her job to answer the phone, I'd say that anyone giving major criticism to the nurse is probably stupid. If anything, blame the nurse on the ward that (from the sounds of it) actually gave information, or blame the hospital for not having a regular receptionist on duty.

The chances that someone would commit suicide over that and that alone are so slim. The more likely scenario is that she was already battling something like depression and this incident just pushed her over the edge.

completely don't understand what the obsession over the Royal family is, nor do I understand why anyone would be angry about her passing on or taking a call... Just flat out stupid.

Although she had to be going through som eother stuff before this to take her own life. Such a waste.

Huh, I must have my wires crossed. I thought it was the private nurse (the one that dealt with Kate the most) herself that suicided for giving out the information, not the switchboard operator. I had no idea it was the first person who picked up the phone that killed herself, and not the second person they were talking to; In that case, I take back what I said, I thought it was the "Private" nurse that killed herself, not the random nurse that took the call due to a lack of staff at the hour.

DJs have been doing this **** for years. Now everyone is going to get up on their pulpits and complain?

By shock jock standards (trust me I know what 2DayFM is like as I live in Australia) this is a VERY timid joke for them, they've done far, far worse. I'm surprised it got this far, but you can never predict ones emotional stability.

Yeah but after that Kyle and Jackie-O stunt with the 14 year old girl, I don't think they can plead ignorance.

DJs are scumbags

How? It seems like a pretty harmless prank to me. Of course it ended with someone committing suicide, but it wasn't like there was any way to forsee that.

No, he's got it right. DJs ARE scumbags.

I've known this for a long time. Dudes are lower than male porn stars on the celebrity totem pole.

Yeah I agree. 2DayFM, it's sister radio stations (B105FM, SAFM, FOXFM) and Austereo have over the years pulled some disgusting pranks, most occur either on the morning shows, or the Hot 30 (or whatever it's called now, I used to listen to it when it first started and when Kyle/Jackie-O took over it), I remember like at least 10 pranks that if the main media got hold of, would have resulted in a lot more suspensions than that station dishes out (which they only dish out after something horrible happens, of course).

You sound like someone familiar with that story. The way I understand it, it was actually the girl's mother who asked the question? Was the whole thing set up for that reason, or was that question kind of a surprise to the DJs?
