He is turning out to be fairly important in my Theory of Computation class over Chomsky Normal Form, Ive heard he is also a controversial political figure. What are his politics and how controversial are they?

his politics are far to the left and are very critical of the behavior of the usfg in all manner of respects (e.g. likening certain aspects and periods of the foreign policy to state-actor terrorism) and they are very very controversial in part because the merits are up for debate, in part because he's vocal, and in part because his ideas anger people

Chomsky is eh pretty cool guy, he's far-ish left and doesn't afraid of anything... I hear a ton of his more recent books are ghost-written though.

You know how there were a couple of topics about how N Korea is the real victim in the world and has a right to self-defense by constantly threatening to nuke its neighbors and America's far more evil than them? That's Chomsky's brand of politics.

P.S. I've heard that if you email him, there's a good chance he will respond to you.

Well, that's a caricature of Chomsky, at least.

He claims to be a libertarian socialist, that is, an anarcho-socialist. In reality, he's a leftist with good critiques of US foreign policy (and sometimes domestic policy), but isn't an anarchist.

I lost interest in Chomsky when I read him denigrating non-human animals' intelligence so much and his dogmatic and inflexible views on language acquisition and usage. Some of his views just seem a bit arbitrary and "arguing semantics".
