Student loans are killing us

#41RedcountPosted 3/27/2013 6:45:43 PM
Why should young people always have to be the ones who suffer for the rich's excesses

What "excesses"? These entitled brats literally want something for nothing. And as the Canadian national anthem says, you can't get that:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=096LhjGNNCk

And these blackshirt goons broke into classrooms and disrupted classes by assaulting students not participating in the strike of the minority.

What gives them the right to do that? How is that democratic or reasonable?

But you're not interested in what's best for everyone, you only care about your own self-interests. I'd think you'd like "the rich"; you have so much in common.

People need to call out the folks running the colleges.

College in the US has become a for-profit industry. College administrators are making big $$$$. The federal student loan program has enabled them to reap mass profits by exploiting young college students who feel they don't have any choice about whether or not to go to college.

Every aspect of college now is a profit scheme. From on-campus housing, to meal plans, to textbooks, the administrators are trying to squeeze out as much money as they possibly can.

I would love to see some states take back their "public" institutions. Kick out the administrators and take the school back for the good of the state. Tuitions could easily be lowered to under $3,000 a semester (not including dorm costs or meal plans). So many costs can be cut.

Funny how the politicians who are making these punitive laws went to university without paying a penny no matter how rich they were, yet now that the country is bust because they won't pay their taxes it's us who have to suffer, I mean I don't exactly see them lining up to pay back the cost of their subsidised education even though they can afford it and we can't, why should we have to pay out for their greed? The baby boomer scum took and took when they were the young generation and now that they're on top they contribute nothing except a swift kick to the ladder they climbed up themselves.

What are you talking about? I don't know what tuition rates were in Quebec in the 70's and 80's, maybe they were lower, I don't know; they were certainly overdue to be brought up to something reasonable.

yet now that the country is bust because they won't pay their taxes it's us who have to suffer, I mean I don't exactly see them lining up to pay back the cost of their subsidised education even though they can afford it and we can't

You're all about division, aren't you? If it's not class-warfare it's generational-warfare.

The baby boomer scum took and took when they were the young generation and now that they're on top they contribute nothing except a swift kick to the ladder they climbed up themselves.

So put on your sunglasses and deal with it.

et cetera

I'm talking about the UK by the way, I don't know what the Canadian situation was but I imagine much the same, this kind of thing is global (or at least first global).

As for deal with it... well I could just as easily say the same to you about these student protests, but only one of us is in the right here, still I guess it's alright for some libertarian trust fund babies.

ehhhhhhh

Horsey's okay, but he can get pretty racist (9/11 basically drove him nuts for a few years)/sexist. That one in particular is overly wordy/explain the joke-y.

Also politoons are awesome, maybe I should make a thread on them

I can't comment on that front, I just found it while googling the other thing but I thought it fit the point pretty well

Not giving away something for nothing is not "class warfare".

As for deal with it... well I could just as easily say the same to you about these student protests,

Oh, I'd love to deal with them, if only the government would give me a badge and a gun, and let me read the riot act.

but only one of us is in the right here

Clearly, and it's not the one who wants to disrupt student learning through violence.

still I guess it's alright for some libertarian trust fund babies.

Maybe it is; I wouldn't know, because I worked a minimum-wage job for years to save up the cash to pay my way through college.

How is it that rich people who don't pay for their own schooling are inferior to poor people who don't pay for their own schooling?

And how is it that the many students like me, who paid for their own education, are inferior to the rioters who refuse to pay a dime? The rich who don't work for it are worse than the poor who don't work for it, but no one is as bad, apparently, as the working man who pays his own way.

Would you believe that students in Quebec have been rioting for over a year, set off a bomb on a subway, stormed classrooms and shut them down for the students who want to learn, and are generally behaving like the Maoist Red Guards, all because their tuition was going to go up from $2,500 to $2,875 next year (the lowest rates in the country)?

Yeah this is why I don't agree with the whole notion of "give benefits so the lower classes don't revolt" (which essentially amounts to a veiled threat). All it does is encourage them. Angry extremists will always riot about something, jail is the answer to violence.
