Hmm...

I have no idea what a twerk video means, but if it means what they say it means,

then frankly I don't think I can say much, because severe behavior merits severe consequences. Yes the video is quite disturbing.

The problem with "strict" parents is that they act as if teenagers will never do anything wrong, when most teens and pre-teens do something totally unacceptable at least once. We punish parents for not being totally prepared for it, and this drives many more parents into the opposite corner.

No choice in the matter. If you're not prepared for it for what your children might do, you are a poor parent and must improve.

That's easily child abuse, no question. The father should be thrown in jail for that.

A twerk video is sexually suggestive dancing and gyration, from a quick google search.

It is not "abuse" if no injury threatening life or other severe impairment was suffered. So let's get that word out of the way.

Nor is it considered excessive discipline if the purpose of the discipline is to correct the child's behavior, and falls within a reasonable use of force depending upon the severity of the infraction.

The infraction was severe. The girls allegedly made a video in which they exposed their bodies on the internet. Family and criminal courts across the country have sometimes refused to sanction parents for physical discipline, even discipline inflicting injury, if in their judgment the discipline was reasonable. Hitting a child 7 to 11 times with a cord, if it's ever justifiable, is more likely to be so in response to a situation when a child is placing herself in danger.

The children probably did suffer injury as a result of this incident. That's problematic but nothing close to something that merits jail time.

And the father's behavior was controlled.

[Edit:] A twerk video is sexually suggestive dancing and gyration, from a quick google search.

Hmm, that changes things.

Controlled is not her writhing on the floor while you beat her with a cord. Control is her standing in one spot and you controlling the blow to ensure it hits a safe spot with a safe amount of force.
