How can anyone defend this overreaching of law enforcement authority?

Military ordering people out of homes in "secure zones", some still barefoot, APCs with full teams of SWAT, cops brandishing sidearms at innocent civilians, FBI going door to door questioning people, inspecting random houses with no warrant... an entire city turned into a police state for half a day just to get ONE suspect... and they didn't even get him during the lockdown.

I have seen a lot of justifications for this activity on this board and I simply cannot understand it. How can anyone in their right mind think this is okay? What did this lockdown even do? I get it, they want to find their man. They want to find him really badly. But does that justify what was done today? Its worth pointing out that they didn't find him during this lockdown... ultimately cops in riot gear demanding people comply with their orders only further panicked an already shaken community.

These pictures look like something out of a dystopian thriller movie, not an American city. I understand we need to get this guy, but at what cost? At what point do we say enough is enough? Is it worth raiding every house in town to find this guy? And even if they do that will they still guarantee finding him? For all we know he could be in another state by now. Are we going to raid every house in Massachusetts... every house in the country? At some point the lunacy has to end and the investigation has to return to normal investigative leads, not an attempt to "secure" hundreds of city blocks.

Sometimes freedom has to take a back seat to security. It's a fact of life.

The police/military are trying to stop a guy from shooting you.

Literally no reason to complain.

Extraordinary circumstances warrant this

If it happened every day, I'd happily overthrow the govt

This isn't an every day occurrence...its a major specific situation where the suspect has BOMBS that he can use to wipe out a lot of lives. They want to end this situation as soon as possible with minimal lives lost. I would be worried if they didn't go this far to get the guy.
