Any time a school calls in the police for anything short of an actual law being broken or posing a serious risk of hurting someone they basically make it impossible to convince people they were in the right. If they hadn't called the cops this probably wouldn't have even been news.

How?

They arrested a child for refusing to turn his shirt inside out and for talking back.

It's stupid as hell to call the cops and if the kid or the kids parents make a big stink about it the school is well within its rights to censor clothing they deem inappropriate or causing a problem or disturbance. Same reason many schools won't let you die your hair blue or green or whatever.

Just give the kid a detention or the day in school suspension for it and be done. Barring actual uncontrollable and serious threats of violence they really don't need to bring the police into it.

No he didn't.

@ all the people saying they didn't need to call the police: not every school has security guards to deal with disruptive students. The teachers and other school staff can't do it themselves if the student is refusing to do something, so they'd have to call the police.

But he was already in an administrator's office. They could have just suspended him and kept him in the admin's office until his parents could come pick him up.

Lol, can't believe some people are defending the school. This is crossing the lines.

The kid was doing absolutely nothing wrong. He also got away with it for 5 classes. So obviously it wasn't much of a big deal to the other teachers or one of them would have called him out.

Also the kid has every right in the first amendment to practice his freedom of speech as long as if he's not doing anything wrong. Which he wasn't from the article.

Children in schools are not protected from the school by the first amendment. Even though you can't be arrested for saying that Obama is a ****tard, you can absolutely be disciplined for yelling it in the middle of geometry class. This is a non-issue.
