srs question: why is it ok for terrorists and say North Korea to post on youtube

80/80 woot

Yeah if Youtube shut it down they'd just go to some other site, but I don't really understand why Youtube thinks it's ok for people to post pro-terrorist and pro-North Korea crap, but it's totally and 100% not cool to show nudity or clips from the Simpsons. Seems kinda messed up to me, and seems like Youtube is claiming to respect even extremist speech while treating an uploaded Daily Show clip as a worse violation than some derka derr ranting about killing the kinds of people who run Youtube...when really what they're doing is deciding that it's ok to make money from providing terrorists and gulagists with cheap and easy web representation. Wouldn't they make a lot of money by letting people show some skin, too? Doesn't really make sense to me. No it's not a free speech issue, Youtube is a private company, not the US government.

Probably has something to do with tracking those that frequent those channels.

Because people uploading clips from the Simpsons which belongs to Fox are breaking laws, which do not apply to people voluntarily uploading their own videos detailing their extremist political beliefs. Nudity could be allowed if YouTube chose, but it would cause a furious uproar by family and religious advocate groups and bring a lot of negative attention to YouTube and potentially a loss of web traffic.

And when I get that feeling, I want REXual healing.

Because of free speech and copyright laws. The no nudity stuff is a decision made by Youtube.

And those people don't care about giving terrorists and North Korea airtime?

You'd think they could make a decision about North Korean propaganda and terrorist propaganda. They're objectively worse than a few nipples and wangs. Yeah Americans are squeamish about that stuff being broadcast on TV or whatever, but we also don't give North Korea or jihadis free airtime on TV.

My guess is that they dont feel they have the manpower to spend their time lurking through their video database removing things with political opinions they dont like, but even if they did, I have no idea why they would. Seems silly to start disallowing certain political opinions.

Prudish Youtube. They took down that upload showing Brendan Fletcher's perfect bare ass.

If they have time to take down every nipple and Daily Show clip, they have time to take down jihadist derka videos.

Yeah but the difference being:
1. these arent illegal
2. these dont have a negative impact on viewership from their target audience
3. although allowing nudity might make youtube a porn site, they dont seem at risk for becoming some kind of politically crazy site, so I doubt it strikes them as a big deal

tbh idk why it strikes YOU as a big deal

It would certainly bring negative publicity. It would definitely not result in a loss of web traffic though...
