CPS kidnaps child from Sacramanto family

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento family was torn apart after a 5-month-old baby boy was taken from his parents following a visit to the doctor.

<snip>

Anna argued with doctors about getting a second opinion. Without a proper discharge, she finally took Sammy out of the hospital to get a second opinion at Kaiser Permanente.

"The police showed up there. They saw that the baby was fine," Anna said. "They told us that Sutter was telling them so much bad stuff that they thought that this baby is dying on our arms."

Medical records from the doctor treating Sammy at Kaiser Permanente said the baby as clinically safe to go home with his parents. The doctor added, "I do not have concern for the safety of the child at home with his parents."

"So police saw the report from the doctors, said, 'okay guys, you have a good day,' and they walked away," Anna said.

Anna said the next day police and child protective services showed up on her doorstep. Alex Nikolayev said he met them outside a short time after they arrived.

"I was pushed against the building, smacked down. I said, 'am I being placed under arrest?' He smacked me down onto the ground, yelled out, 'I think I got the keys to the house,'" Alex said.

Then police let themselves inside.

On home video shot with a camera Anna set up herself, police can be seen entering her front door on Wednesday.

"I'm going to grab your baby, and don't resist, and don't fight me ok?" a Sacramento police officer said in the video.

"He's like, 'okay let your son go,' so I had to let him go, and he grabbed my arm, so I couldn't take Sammy. And they took Sammy, and they just walked away," Anna said.

Anna said Sammy suffers from a heart murmur and had been seeing a doctor at Sutter for regular treatment since he was born. After Sammy was treated for flu symptoms last week, doctors at Sutter admitted him to the pediatric ICU to monitor his condition. After a few days, Anna said doctors began talking about heart surgery.

"If we got the one mistake after another, I don't want to have my baby have surgery in the hospital where I don't feel safe," Anna said.

Anna argued with doctors about getting a second opinion. Without a proper discharge, she finally took Sammy out of the hospital to get a second opinion at Kaiser Permanente.

And then later in the article

Sutter Memorial was asked to comment on the story, but the hospital said the case was with CPS and law enforcement and they would have to comment on the case. CPS said they can't specifically comment on this case because of privacy law, but CPS spokesperson Laura McCasland said, "We conduct a risk assessment of the child's safety and rely heavily on the direction of health care providers."

Topic title should be changed to "Hospital calls CPS because of Hippocratic Oath"

But let's just keep blaming public sectors cause that's more fun.

@NoName999

Read: It all began nearly two weeks ago, when Anna Nikolayev and her husband Alex took their 5-month-old boy Sammy to Sutter Memorial Hospital to be treated for flu symptoms, but they didn't like the care Sammy was getting.

For example, one day Anna asked why a nurse was giving her son antibiotics.

"I asked her, for what is that? And she's like, 'I don't know.' I'm like, 'you're working as a nurse, and you don't even know what to give to my baby for what,'" Anna explained.

According to Anna, a doctor later said Sammy shouldn't have been on the antibiotics.

The first hospital told the parents that their baby was going to have to get heart surgery and they took him to another doctor to get a second opinion. The second doctor confirmed that their baby was being treated wrongly. The police even showed up at the second hospital once before and they explained the situation to them. They were doing the right thing; before allowing their child to go through a dangerous and expensive medical procedure they wanted to get as many opinions as possible.

But please, continue defending the forced separation of a family because the parents asked a second doctor for a second opinion. Some people are morally bankrupt.

Anyway, there's obviously a lot missing here... and... um... does this lady know that nurses don't prescribe medication? They administer meds and can give OTCs without a script, but only nurse practitioners can prescribe meds, and it's pretty unlikely that they were dealing with a nurse practitioner. It would be nice if the nurse knew why the antibiotic was being given, but in a crowded ICU, it's at least as likely that she didn't have time to get a full explanation from the doctor.

And for what it's worth, taking a baby in that bad of condition out of the hospital seems... well... really, really stupid. You can arrange to be moved to a new hospital without... you know... taking a baby right out of the ICU.

He's just pointing out how the gut instinct of people like you and NoName999 is to second-guess the family and play devil's advocate for Child Protective Services, and it's incredibly off-putting. Plus, it happened in Commiefornia.

A, what did I miss, how is this because of Democrats. Is CPS linked to Democrats in some way? I honestly don't know much about CPS.
B, if CPS shenanigans are because of Democrats then you guys know as well as I do that I could say the same damn thing in reverse about that news article last week where a family has let TWO of their kids die because they chose to blatantly neglect their children's medical needs and just pray really hard rather than bringing them to the doctor, and somehow didn't end up in jail after the first incident of gross child neglect. "Oh, burr, this is all Republicans' fault for not caring enough about children to something something blah blah herp"

Honestly, I haven't decided yet whether you're trolls (I'm leaning towards AceVanquish being a troll and Sativa_Rose just being... something else), but this is just embarrassing and you should both feel bad. :P

Also I dunno about CPS but I guarantee that the social services in my town would be on alert if someone took their child out of the hospital without a discharge. This is an unfortunate incident, but seriously, how morally bankrupt are YOU if you think people should just be able to pull kids out of the hospital on a whim without any sort of repercussions? Think of the consequences of that. I beg you.

Yes I'm going to second-guess any family that pulls a five month old with a heart condition right out of an ICU without a proper discharge, and anybody else in the world should do the exact same.

I'm second-guessing a hospital that incorrectly put a five-month-old on antibiotics and planned to subject them to an open heart surgery they didn't need, as well as an incompetent agency which undermined the parents' authority and kidnapped someone's child.
