Comparisons between militant atheists and militant Muslims are inaccurate, true.

But what about comparisons between militant atheists and, say, militant feminists, or black militants? How on the money would those be?

When you get down to it the problem is people want to act like dicks and won't change their behavior no matter how counterproductive it is. Yes atheists have been treated badly but looking down on theists as stupid troglodytes doesn't help militant atheists nor the atheist community, it just makes things worse for everyone involved.

How would say, pretending creationists are super geniuses, help the atheist community?

So in Orca's world, you can either be a super condescending dick to theists, or you have to hail them as some of the smartest people to exist?

Well, whatever BS dichotomies you need to make up excuses for your trollish behavior I guess.

Anyway, I'd say all militant people over some issue are all kinda the same. Once someone becomes a rabid aggressive confrontational extremist about an issue, they get tunnel vision, they become an ass, they become toxic to their own cause, they widen the divide between peoples instead of bridging it. They WANT there to always be a fight, a conflict, a divide. A war is all they understand. That's just the way some people's brains seem to work. Many point out that being extremist like that hurts their cause, but I think few realise that they don't want to help the cause. They really do live for the fight, and since the cause's endgame is total assimilation/acceptance/etc., that is actually counter to their goal.

Tunnel vision in particular is a big problem with all these pet issues. Lot of people who act like they're against, say, racism, but then they only really care about one race's plight. This can even become so severe as to exclude people within their own group. You can see this in feminism in the women who don't even include all women and women's issues in their narrow focus of what matters.

It's certainly okay to have pet issues, especially stuff that's closest to you. Human nature and all that. But when you begin to focus on it to the point of only really caring about that, maybe even being antagonistic to others fighting for generally the same thing, that's when you've basically become...a lobbyist.

The best comparison between the groups: They are largely inconsequential minorities among another minority communities that panicked members of the majority treat like much, much greater threats than they actually are in order to fuel their own persecution complexes.

The second best comparison: They are labels that members of the majority misapply to absolutely anyone who suggests any change of the status quo.

No case of "religious violence" cannot be just as easily ascribed to any other form of identity politics. There is a close relationship.

People who reject science in favour of faith are being stupid. Pretending they're not doesn't help atheism in the slightest.
