African American Vernacular English should be eradicated.

Public schools (such as the one I teach at) have been systematically trying to get rid of it for decades because its tied to a glorification of negative cultural stereotypes and hugely damaging in life prospects to people who don't know how to speak any other way.

Its seen by employers as a mark of being unintelligent (whether you actually are or not), the media its used in almost universally promotes and glorifies inadvisable ways to live, and it creates ties to a subset in-group that successful people of that race necessarily have to leave.

The only time you'll see a successful black person speak that way is if they're writing conceptual poetry or giving an example.

I made the thread because people were starting to pile up focusing on this single thing I said in here while being too cowardly to address the central point: www.gamefaqs.com/boards/261-politics/66797755

I definitely agree. Redneck-speak has to go. But I've never seen it glorified the way this is.

Fortunately, pretty much every single person that speaks AAVE is capable of code-switching (which is probably more than you can do. What else do you speak besides neckbeard?) So that is false.

The only time you'll see a successful black person speak that way is if they're writing conceptual poetry or giving an example.

Or they're just capable of that thing called code switching and you don't hear them speak AAVE in professional settings.

Dude how f------- racist are you? seriously goddamn

Yeah bro. I bet Cornell West spends his off hours sounding exactly like Lil Wayne and starts saying the the n-word as language filler.

If I was criticising other people's use of English, I'd make sure I had mastered it first.
