Well said. Though this is a very tricky subject, as many people stake their entire lives on their particular slice of belief, it is also a very illuminating one.

Another point that I believe should be made, though it might seem obvious, is that you shouldn't make any assumptions about any of the posters on this board.

If you're a Christian and you assume that any atheist that posts is evil and trying to subvert your very way of life, you're obviously not going to pay him any attention.

Likewise, I suggest my fellow atheists keep in mind that many of the theists on this board are very well educated in many fields such as philosophy, theology, physics, evolution, and so forth. Do not presume to be able to trump them with the 'science' card. Like you, they are serious debaters, and are up to the challenge. Many of them believe in the same scientific principals that we do. They just disagree with us beyond the quantum level.

Everyone should be given their fair shot at representing their case, and you would do well to read what they say with an open mind. If you go into this with assumptions made, you will leave with assumptions intact.

On the other side of the coin, there are quite a few individuals on all sides that are not the brightest of the bunch. They lack the education of others, but their passion is just as strong. Do not blow them off because they lack the same knowledge as you, but rather try to understand their view. Maybe instead of bashing them for their lack of knowledge, try to help them better explain their concepts by understanding their concepts a little better.

Too many individuals come here thinking they are going to 'fight those silly Christians' or 'beat back those wicked atheists'. Not enough come here because they want to try and find some common ground.

Regardless of what flavor of philosophical pie you enjoy, know that others have their own favorite flavor. We should respect each others opinions and beliefs, regardless of whether or not we disagree with them on the bullet points.

We're all in this together, people. We're all trying to find an answer in a world that sometimes seems cold and cruel. As long as we keep this 'them and us' mentality, we'll always have 'them' and 'us'. We should instead strive to work towards 'each other'. We may not ever agree on any one philosophical or theological point of view, but we can all marvel at the splendor that is existence.

Regardless of whether you believe it was created by a god or is the result of some cosmic coincidence, is it really any less beautiful?
