So I've been thinking about the whole Dungeons and Dragons scare...

(and the Pokemon/Ouija board/rock album scares and so forth)

Interpreting the Bible literally, there isn't any indication that demons or spirits can actually possess or inhabit or operate through an inanimate object is there? Isn't every demonic entity in the Bible directly linked to humans like the "madmen" Jesus supposedly healed or the witch of Endor?

I don't think it's so much that the Pokeymans/D&D itself is harmful, but that it would lead you to commit/associate with those who are evil.

It's all scapegoating.

Parents, especially religious parents in my experience, will find anything but themselves to blame for their kids behaviour.

One of the weirdest things I hear from parents is that no one should tell them how to raise their kids.

I mean, yeah, no one should forcibly tell you. But by Zeus, learn from the experience of others, please!

My stepbrothers weren't allowed to do/play anything that had anything to do with pokemon, magic, power rangers, pretty much all anime/asian culture, aliens, dragons and some other mythological creatures, and probably some more stuff that I can't think of.

On one Halloween, my oldest step brother wanted to dress up as a ninja. It was MK style, black with the two strips of armor. He wasn't allowed to wear the two armored portions because there was a Ying Yang on one side of it. When my dad asked why she she said "I know what that means."

I never understood the pokemon deal. I mean, D&D directly deals with sorcery, gods and demons, and all that jazz. Same with the Ouija boards and such. I just don't get what's supposed to be evil and occult about pokemon.

I don't really get any of it. But then my preacher dad brought me up playing D&D which he learned about from an Elder. At one time we even had a church D&D group.

I think essentially people fear what they don't understand, and D&D, rock music, and Pokemon are all relatively new things so people who weren't brought up around them don't always understand them.

I dont think its so much concern about deamons possessing people through DnD et al, but that things like that teach kids that evil/demonic things are good. Or that DnD is used as a recrument and training tool for the occolt that drives teenagers to sucide:

Although most of the complaints about these things come from people who've never actually read/played them so I find it best to ignore them...

From what I can tell the main complaint comes from creationists who think pokemon teaches kids to accept the idea of evolution.

Although to think pokemon teaches evolution, one would have to either be completely ignorant of pokemon, completely ignorant of evolutionary theory, or(most likely) completely ignorant of both.

So why would it confuse you that creationists are against it?
