I'm not doing this to call out anyone on their beliefs. I, myself, am agnostic (i consider myself "ignorant" towards knowings of the universe and celestial meaning, however I am well read on religion). I also see valid arguments for and against a god. However, this website DOES show some pretty convincing arguments against one, and I'm just curious what the defense would be (don't take this the wrong way).

Are you talking about the things in the "absurdities" section? If so, I agree.

I'm talking about all of the commentaries....Almost all of them fail to show an respect for context, genre considerations(poetry isnt ment to be taken literally), or....well anything really.....

I do, however like their 'language' and 'sex' sections. Its a helpful reminder that the Biblical authors wernt always as prud-ish as some modern Christians like ot think.....

well thanks for pointing that out to me, I'm certain this site is not much of a reliable source.

Its not a good source if youre looking to actually understand the Bible.

Which is probably a good thing, I certainly dont expect atheists to blow a bunch of time becoming Bible scholars. Im a little baffled they put so much effort into it already, tbh. I would not have in their position.

TRJ: It pays to be at least somewhat familiar with one of the most influential works of literature in the western world. Just saying. It's not about only knowing about things that match your beliefs, it's about being a well-rounded and well-read person.

That makes sense, but I think the site would have been much better if they had gone in thinking "lets analyze this as an influential piece of literature" rather than "lets go in to justify our preconceived notions of what the Bible says and is".

Oh and also even if I am not Christian I live in America and the overwhelming majority do identify with that. It seems like even if I don't believe it's going to come up at some point. So I figure it's better to at least understand it somewhat.
