Gay men and women have sacrificed their lives in battle for you to be able type such nonsense, often thanklessly as this country, until last year, would have kicked them out of the military if they didn't lie about their sexual orientation.

You know there are plenty of homophobic Christian fundamentalists in the military as well.
Should we start forcing them to lie about it in case one of these super-tough homosexual badasses gets their feelings hurt?

Get back to me when they're the ones being discriminated against as opposed to the ones doing the discriminating. It doesn't break their leg to have to serve with a gay person any more than it does to serve with non-Christians, drunkards, fornicaters, women who have had abortions, or any other kind of person that they might find objectionable. If they're actually afraid of gay people as opposed to just hating them, though, then they just have to learn to deal with that. Racists had to learn to deal with it when the military became desegregated.

I don't know why you think the mere presence of such a person would hurt the feelings of a gay person, though. A lot of us are around them all the time. Frankly, if the homophobe was ranting at a "super-tough homosexual badass," I'd be more concerned about the homophobe being the hurt one.

I was going under the assumption that you should never say anything bad about homosexuals because they might commit suicide.
So I take it you agree that homophobic soldiers are every bit as brave and selfless for fighting for things they don't like, and that they should be free to express their true feelings as they wish without fear of repercussions?
(And that includes beatings by homophobophobic homosexual badasses BTW.)

That's a rather ignorant assumption to make, considering that that's a problem prevalent among gay teenagers, primarily due to bullying (NOT someone saying something "bad," but daily harassment, beatings, etc.) in schools. But let's face it, you aren't interested in an honest assessment of the situation so much as looking for an opportunity to take jabs at the LGBT community.

I believe that people in the USA have freedom of speech, regardless of their views on any particular subject. However, this is rather frequently (especially these days) taken to mean that freedom of speech also means freedom from the consequences of that speech. That isn't the case.

I wouldn't condone physical violence towards anyone, but I'd also consider it incredibly stupid to antagonize someone that could be described as a "badass."

We all agree this guy is a monster for violently refusing to accept his child's sexuality, well most of us, but why is it perfectly okay for someone to politely refuse to accept their child's sexuality?

Because people have a right to have their own opinion on anything and everything? What you seem to be advocating here is thought control, and to me that's almost more terrifying than advocating punching young children.

Chaz Bono has always been a straight man, he just had the wrong body for a while.

I'm sorry, I thought the term "man" referred to the physical body one may possess.

"Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist.

Man up. Give him a good punch. OK?"

This sounds like shock-preaching. I've heard it before, it's not supposed to be literal as much as it is supposed to get a point across by exaggerating. Of course I've never met this guy, but I have a hard time believing this is serious.

Now let's play my favorite game on Gamefaqs: Find-A-Quote!

The rules are quite simple. Your whining about how people have a right to their opinion and that I advocate thought control.

So now you have to Find-A-Quote where I actually said that. Post a quote of me stating that being a bigot should be legally prohibited in any way. Post a single quote of me advocating for them to be banned from believing bigoted bull**** or stop whining about it.

"herp derp well dey haz tah right to da opinions!" is one of the dumbest arguments I regularly hear defending bigotry. People have the right to raise their kids to believe their evil sinners if they're left-handed to, doesn't change the harm that does.

I want to apologize for my belligerent posts in this topic. My views on homosexuality are unchanged, and I think we ought to be careful to examine context clues before jumping to conclusions about the things people say concerning hot-button issues. But I should have said so in a friendlier tone. Sorry.
