The bible says that Adam wasn't deceived, he knew what was up

He did not know what the apple would do. He and Eve were simply told not to eat it because.

Perhaps God should have considered making humans less curious.
There must be hope.

It wasn't an apple, it was a fruit. And God did tell Adam and Eve what it would do - though one could argue that he could and should have explained it better and that he left out the whole truth. He just said they'd die...which is true, it did bring death into the world. How Adam and Eve even knew what death was in a world that had never experienced it before is anybody's guess...
