Does Scientology have just as much credibility as say Christianity?

If the founders had Christianity had said they were writing fiction as Hubbard did, then yes. Otherwise no, they are not comparable.

One was a response to a schism in Judaism 2000 years ago. Another was a moneygrab by a science fiction author.

We know who created it, why he created it and how it was created. We can't say the same for Christianity though.

So you're saying Scientology has slightly more credibility than Christianity.

We know for a fact Scientology is fake. We know who created it, why he created it and how it was created. We can't say the same for Christianity though.

Well we are making assumptions based on comments the person said but that doesn't mean that it is necessarily all fake as well since it posits some scientific level claims with Dianetics and not just the space nonsense. Sooooo yeah, it is possible it has more credibility in certain respects and not so much in others.

*Note I say possible, not likely or otherwise

In addition to what Dag says, there's a problem because Scientology is an esoteric religion. What most of us think of as their "beliefs" may, in higher levels that have not yet been leaked, turn out to be not meant as literally true, and instead a myth.

We know that LRH made the whole thing up. It was total fiction. But you can't disprove the notion that the teachings of Scientology are in fact the truth, and LRH's fiction by chance exactly mirrors reality. And anything that can't be disproved must be true.

So yes, Scientology is equally as credible as Christianity.

There is a difference between Scientology and Dianetics.

I would say that Scientology does have less credibility then Christianity. Pretty much all the core claims made about human psychology within Scientology and Dianetics are known to be false. I don't believe in Christianity but still the idea of God sending down his Son to die falls under the might be true category but Scientology falls under the completely false category.

What? Dianetics is the one thing we can say that is completely false. It's pure ******* vitalism. It's on the same level as homeopathy, crystal healing and other such nonsense. Although we can't prove for sure that there is no Lord Xenu if Dianetics doesn't work(which it doesn't) then "Scientology" as we know is false. Honestly the only thing that really separates Dianetics from something like homeopathy(imo anyway) is that Hubbard created all the other Scientology stuff to try to justify Dianetics and all the "auditing" and other "services".

I would say they have the same credibility...which is nothing.

It's true that we don't know the origins of the bible as well as we know the origins of scientology. But so what? They both have zero evidence in their favor. Just a bunch of hokum. Give it 2000 years to suffer its own dark age and it will be just like the rest of them.
