Why do people cherry pick Leviticus?

#1bratt100Posted 3/16/2013 8:07:23 PM
It's almost as if they see it as much to difficult and unreasonable to live up to most of the laws set down but once it gets to the topic of two men they jump on it.

Do they ignore the rest intentionally or is it just a case of severe cognitive dissidence?

How do they determine one thing to be irrelevant and the other to base laws on?

Would they close all clothing manufacturers that produce clothing with different fabrics?

I really just don't get it. It feels like the one of the most hypocritical things you can do.

Leviticus contains not just laws, but principles by which both Jews and Christians are supposed to live by.

If God feels a certain way about something, then it's safe to say that he still feels that way about it.
If he found homosexuality detestable back then, he probably still does today.

We don't stone them, because the Mosaic Law was retired, but that doesn't mean we can't point to Leviticus and say "God feels this way".

Also, the sentiment about homosexuality was repeated in the NT.

If you didn't know that the Mosaic Law was retired, well, newsflash, it was. The law was there for a purpose. Jesus fulfilled that purpose. The law was no longer needed.

Actually it does. If laws have been "retired" than that means that God has changed his mind. Or for whatever reason has decided humans no longer need to abide by certain things that he once thought were a good idea.. Odd for a perfect, unchanging being but perfectly normal and even expected if God's laws are really man's laws dreamed up to fit cultural norms in a particular place and time...

That's the rest of the story right there.

didn't he also say that the OT is as relevant as it has always been and him fulfilling the prophesy didn't change that old laws?

Not necessarily. He could have always had in mind that the laws were only supposed to be a short-term thing.
As a matter of fact, he did, according to the bible.

If he wants to know what fulfillment is, let him read the theological explanation. Christ fulfilled it
