Any other atheists dislike r/atheism on Reddit?

I got tired of it fast, and unsubscribed quite a while ago. It's pretty much just Facebook screenshots and memes and quote macros.

Wait, a community called "trueatheism" actually exists? And people don't "no true Scotsman" them?

That's the way subreddits work, it's just a name, not an epistimological claim.

Oh, okay. So all "subreddits" have a "true" prefix?

No, I meant that the names they're given are just sort of placeholders generally, and very frequently tongue in cheek. That they call themselves trueatheists doesn't really mean they think they're the only ones deserving of the title.

I see.

I guess I haven't been on reddit enough to catch on to that.

Yeah, the true prefix more or less means it's a more serious subreddit. r/gaming has memes and crap, r/truegaming has more discussions.

The problem starts when we are having a discussion just fine and you come along and derail the topic because you can't stand us all having the same definition.

Just thought this was relevant. See? r/atheism does have its uses! I don't deny that it has its problems, goes too far sometimes, but it also acts as a support group for some.

But a cult can be a support group too. /r/atheism just a big hugbox for people who want their prejudices validated.

Reddit's format does seem to lead to vocal posters pleasuring themselves in a circular fashion. I generally log in to hide r/atheism and a few other giant subreddits that always get to the front page.
