I have a question about this "free from desire" thing I keep hearing about.

Do these "free from desire" people ever contribute to anything, or do they just sit around until they die, what with not wanting to do anything?

It probably should be taken more as "free from craving", which is to signify egocentric and unhealthy craving. Buddhism is against the strict asceticism that some practiced at the time.

You're still a human, and so you're still going to feel desire.

In Mahayana Buddhism at least, the ideal is the Bodhisattva, who works to benefit all sentient beings. Just sitting around uselessly and benefitting no one would be looked down upon.

lol I asked the same thing before but I said they might be depressed. They still do things to continue their life. And buddha was a teacher.
