Is Elder Sign a good option?

I've been enjoying Arkham Horror quite a bit but find that set up etc. is a bit of a pain and takes a long while. This is considering I'm usually doing it alone. Would Elder Sign be a good and faster alternative for me?

Yes! I actually like Elder Sign more than AH. Set up is much easier as well, just requires laying out a few cards and that's about it. It has a slightly different flavor, but is a great solution to what you're looking for. Cheap too!

I do like Elder Sign more than AH as well. However it still doesn't have that "cooperative" thing that I love, since the only main interacting you do is either giving someone and item or banking a die on them.

I actually do a lot of play in AH alone. Getting my wife and friends learning takes a while and alone unless something happens goes smoother. Well except yesterday when I had a dozen monster surges (is that normal?) due to bad mythos deck shuffling. So the coop loss wouldn't be huge but would it be easier to teach to people as well? I know I tried to teach AH to a few and it took quite a bit but they're willing to try again. Also don't play AH with a 4 year old around when playing alone.

I ended up getting it yesterday and am looking forward to a first game in the next day or two. It looks fun and a lot quicker the Arkham Horror is. I am watching a tutorial video just to make sure all the rules are cool (I have a couple of questions but its easy enough to find tutorials online partly because this forum just moves slowly). I'm hoping I can teach people easier as well.

I just hope I can get more play in then AH just due to speed issues. I like family game time and can hopefully get some time in there too.

As a final point I found a great AH tutorial on youtube if you are trying to teach people. It's super long though being its 11 or 12 parts and most are right around the 10 minute mark.

My wife and I have been playing it for our review next month(check the Cthulhu month topic for a link to our review series)and we both REALLY love it. The set up is fairly small, the game itself is a ton of fun and its great co op or solo play(though I do my solo play on the Ipad). My biggest complaint would be some of the components are a bit on the small side and that on rare turns luck can screw you over.

Long live Jenny Barnes! Seriously, she's the best investigator. I play Elder Sign on my phone and beating Cthulhu is easy as pie using just her. Other investigators just slow her down.

I didn't like Elder Sign, you either crush it with ease or you dig yourself into a hole you can't get out of. In like 30 games with my playgroup, we only had like 2 games that actually came down to the wire.

Quick side question is it worth the 4 to shell out for Omens if I have the original?

She does indeed kick massive amounts of ass. The only downside she has is if you get unlucky and have the red and yellow dice locked. In those cases I usually also am playing with the detective guy that gets 2 rerolls from 1 clue token and he takes care of it ;)
