I've tried downloading the game client from battle.net but when I try to startup the game I'm prompted to insert expansion disc. The point of me downloading the client was to avoid that since I don't have the lod disc anymore. I have the regular d2 installation, play and cinematics discs. Pretty much have everything including cd keys but no expansion disc.

You're presumably lacking a couple of mpq files from the LoD disk. You don't need the disk in the drive anymore, but you do need to make a full install for that to work.

1) do the full install 2) download and install patch 1.13 3) ??? 4) profit --- I'm not fail, I'm successfully challenged.

Step 3 = Copy-paste d2music.mpq and d2xmusic.mpq from your CDs to your Diablo II folder. --- Nic the Man

I'm not sure you need to copy any files if you're using the digital version, provided you're installing it properly (i.e. installing classic D2 first then LoD and not just LoD) and doing a Full Install both times. I mean, having a digital version wouldn't make much sense if you required a disc to play it...
It's worth a try though.

Didn't read the digital download bit, sorry.
Do the digital files come with any sort of ISO? You may need to mount it to play.
Make sure you've installed Patch 1.13 though... That's key. --- Nic the Man

With the digital download, just download the installers, then install the Core game first, then the expansion, then download and install 1.13c and you're good to go. I didn't need to do anything beyond that. --- "I'm 19, and I'm only trying to help you by correcting your opinion." - PhaseBlack
