Is there a way to make your Steam go auto-away if you have been idle for a while

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic. I figure the TF2 board is the best place to ask questions about the Steam client.

You mean like close itself out when you're not doing anything?

I was under the impression it already did that, unless you were in game. Then your online status shouldn't show anyway.

If you're talking about idling in-game and you want to let people know, I would just change your name or something.

I realised earlier I didn't know what my own signature was

It automatically sets your status to snooze if your computer screen turns off.

Sounds like a load of hoopla to me.

Yeah, if my friend is any indication, any time he's not in-game and away, it auto-sets him, then snoozes a while after. Once he's back it auto-onlines him, too.

It seems like what you guys are looking for is some sort of P. Diddy-style shrimping vessel.

Yeah, I'm pretty confident it already does this.

People ignore the away anyway, and I see the following a dozen times a month.

"hello
smobo you there
hey
whats up?
you there?
ughh..."
